Official Phantasy Star Portable 2 Fan Art Contest Announced
By Ryna at 05/28/2010 - 01:43
Phantasy Star Portable 2

Earlier today, RubyEclipse announced the launch of an official fan artist contest for Phantasy Star Portable 2. The winner of the contest will have their piece included as a room decoration in the localized version of the game! Entries must be Phantasy Star themed and be a multiple of 374 x 561 pixels. This size was selected so the art piece could be scaled properly for use in-game. Here is a breakdown of the prizes as quoted from the website:

  • One Grand Prize Winner receive their art included as a wall-scroll in Phantasy Star Portable 2, and a free copy of the game!
  • Two First Place Winners will each receive a free copy of the game, and their submissions featured on the SEGA Blogs!
  • Seven Runner-up Winners will each receive a Phantasy Star T-shirt, and an inflatable Rappy!

If you are interested, you will have to move quickly. The submission deadline is June 2nd. Submissions should be mailed to communityteam@sega.com. Be sure to visit the website to review the contest rules.

Update for June 1st: The submission deadline has been changed to June 8th.

Yeah. This is why sometimes I wished I was a visual artist. Us Audio Artists *always* and I mean *always* get the contest shaft for anything that's both audio/video-related media contests. Still, it's always nice to see what comes out of it.

Now, if I understand the way the grand prize works, only the grand prize winner gets the in-game wallscroll, correct? It's not going to be an item that everyone can get?

by RubyEclipse on Sat, 05/29/2010 - 04:18
RubyEclipse's picture
I can help clarify. Whoever wins the Grand Prize gets their item placed within the final game code itself. In short, every single person who plays the western version of the game will be able to see the wall scroll featuring that art. :) Also, some good news - we may be able to extend the time of the contest another week or so. I'll be able to confirm this next Tuesday!

Sigh... a Fantasy Earth Zero AND Phantasy Star fan art contest at the same time!? ... ... ... Sign me up. I wonder though if we could use characters from older titles (PS 1-4)

Yes, you can!

Hey Ruby, I had an idea for a scroll. Can I have like 5 scrolls (each abiding by the dimensions) but together they make one image? (I'll probably be more like 3 scrolls) So it will be a large image, broken down into 3 scrolls, to make 1 image. Alone it means nothing, but together it makes something amazing! Also- this is a pretty cool contest, seeing how the winner will have their ART in the game a lot of people will be playing! I find that amazing! (Would the winner be in the credit or anything, for bragging rights or something?)

I don't have clearance for three scrolls, sorry. Our contest (and the legal rules) only allot for one scroll. That said, it's a very cool idea. :)

Is there a page with all the entries so far?

by RubyEclipse on Tue, 06/01/2010 - 17:01

There isn't a page where users can view all entries yet, but I'm going to post many up on the blog after the contest ends. Our winners will also be revealed there.

Great idea! Good luck guys! If only I can draw well to enter myself. :P If there's not enough time for some artists to enter, I hope they can (the individual artists themselves) at least sumbit their older entries from previous PSOWorld contests. There were some great fan arts I wouldn't mind looking at in game. :) They'd just have to adjust them for size.

Update: It's now official! We've added seven more days to give everyone more time to complete their entries.

I just submitted my entry. Are we supposed to wait until SEGA posts them or should we upload them to this site as well? O.III

We'll spotlight some of the best entries (and announce winners) on the Blog shortly after the contest ends. Until then, I'd say keep your entry private just to make sure nobody else tries to grab it and submit it as their own.

Just for the sake of making sure my entry was received, can you tell me if people on your end can view images saved as .PNG? Also, will you notify winners by both telaphone and email? I ask becasue my phone got left in someone's car and that person is on a week long trip out of state O_o

by RubyEclipse on Sun, 06/06/2010 - 19:29
RubyEclipse's picture
We'll use E-mail to get in touch with the winners - the phone number is mostly for legal reasons. Also, PNG should be fine. I've looked over a couple entries already that were .PNG format. If I hear anything different when I confirm this with Sonic Team, I'll let you know!

Hi Ruby, I just submitted my entry. If possible, can you confirm if you got it? It's the one with the medium shot of Alisa Landeel holding a sword - cel shaded, with space as a background. Size is 748x1122 based on specifications.
