Sonic Adventure Scheduled for XBLA Release in September
By Tomeeboy at 09/01/2010 - 21:52
Sega

We love seeing Dreamcast titles get a second lease on life through digital distribution and while we knew this one was coming, we're still excited to see a firm release date announced! Sonic's debut Dreamcast title, Sonic Adventure, is slated to launch on Xbox 360 Live Arcade later this month, according to a post made to Sega's official US blog on Tuesday. The best-selling game marked a huge transition in the Sonic franchise toward 3D environments and is one of the most highly regarded 3D Sonic titles to date.

The game is said to be redone in HD (though, this does not appear to include support for 16:9) and will include all of the content that players loved from the original, including the Chao Garden, a virtual pet minigame. A follow-up release on Playstation Network was also hinted at, so hang in there if you're a Playstation 3 owner looking to relive this classic. Sonic Adventure launches September 15th on Xbox Live Arcade for the low price of just 800 Microsoft Points ($10 USD).

Woo first comment! With Marvel VS Capcom 2 and Virtual On it's like my DC died and became my 360, bring on classic PSO!

That's pretty cool. Hopefully some more DC games will make it on the 360/PS3. Love Sonic Adventure, despite a lot of people hating it.

Don't buy it. It's a terrible port of the PC version, isn't in HD, still has a million bugs and they're gonna charge you for the Mission Mode separately as "DLC".

A source, if you will. Where did you find this out?

O_O SSShhhhuuusshhhhh! Dont give them any ideas! The last thing we want is Sega making a Sonic The Zombie game! (After the Gunhappy Shadow, Werehog, and Sonic and the Black Knight, who knows what theyl do next :_: Sega seems to be making a bit of money by re-releaseing the same games over and over on each new system. Name one (okay two) consoles or handheld game machines released after the Sega Genesis that you cant get Sonic 3 on. I wouldnt call Sonic Dead however, its only dead when Sega says they're retiring the character and nobody wants to buy the games.

sonic cant be that dead, if his games are still selling, maybe to a newer audience, But it alienates the older generation, I didnt mind Sonic Adventure's 1 and 2

Sonic doesn't seem dead to me, the new Sonic game to be released in November, Sonic Colors, actually looks like a fun game:

I'd buy it just to play with the Chao Garden again. :D Though I liked it better in Sonic Adventure 2. I hope it becomes available eventually, too.

a new lease on life? didn't it get a new one when it was released for the gc? ow well, its a way for younger kids to learn about the fun old sonic before you had to replay a level 20 times to earn hot dogs.

Earn hot dogs? Say what now? Forgive my ignorance, but the last new Sonic game I played was Sonic Heroes.

sonic unleashed, each county has a hot dog vendor, the vendor will give you a hot dog for completing challenges, you select a challenge such as collect a certain number of rings. now this would be easy except for your placed in a certain place in a certain spot in the stage, you must meet the goal in a time limit, and you must complete the stage. would be easier if you just had to meet the goal.

Sounds like it could be a pain.

Wonder if it'll have the Chao Garden upgrades that DX had? Or, even, potentially even more depth of Chao, since there wasn't much of a way to get hero/dark stats without going to SA2:B And I wonder if Chao data will be shared with the (obviously upcoming) Sonic Adventure 2 PSN/XBLA release?

Where's Sonic the Hedgehog 4 before they start porting over DC classics? Couldn't they just wait til the much hyped sequel is out after delays?...

This series died after heroes blah blah blah... This will always be my favorite sonic only cause adventure 2 took out adventure fields, heroes...all the characters outside of espio and team sonic sucked, and all the games after this aside from handhelds was just a tragedy.

I'm not really sure what to make of this news. On one hand Sonic Adventure was my favorite Sonic game. On the other hand it was flawed. Playing as Sonic or Tails was funs, playing as Knuckles was different, playing as everyone else was dull and boring. The hub world bits were also not as good as they could have been. I know it's only 800 points and I will probably get my moneys worth out of Sonic Adventure but I can think of better things to spend the points/money on. Sega really needs to retire Sonic for good, the little blue bastard hasn't been pulling his weight for years and is no longer relevant to modern gaming.

This will surely be worth the 800 ms points. Definitely one of my top 5 favorite games for Dreamcast. Bring on Shenmue next.....even though that game was kinda long and I don't know if I'd replay it, but who knows...;)
