Here is what we know so far:
  • The game is less than 10% complete. It is scheduled for release in 2013.
  • It will use the same servers and character data as the PC version.
  • Gameplay will be online only.
  • It is possible that cross-platform parties between PC and Vita clients will be allowed. This is briefly shown in the video.

Well I guess that means I have to get the 3G Vita, Hello monthly AT&T imposed data caps.

You can NOT play online with 3G anywhere anytime.... you are confused.

Really? Didn't know.... then whats the purpose of the 3G model? I was just gong off the verbiage from Sony's page http://us.playstation.com/psvita/systems/ps-vita-3g.html It would be fun to play on my rig at home and then just take the Vita with me when I go out. Also if the Video says it wont work on 3G then I'm sorry, I'm at work and cant watch it right now :( They block YouTube.

3G Players Phantasy Star Online 2 can be played on 3G or Wifi! But the amount of data that’s supported on both is considerably different. On Wifi, data speeds were close enough in comparison to PC players. However, for 3G, it will be difficult for the data speeds to catch up, so they have plans to do something separate when you are on that network. (Sakai did not go into detail as to how different the data communication would be on 3G.) http://bumped.org/psublog/category/phantasy-star-online-2/

Actually. BlazBlue plays over 3G already on Vita. Apparenty Hot Shots as well, though Hot Shots is turn-based.

Cool, that PSO 2 is coming to the PSV. Guess it add another game to the collection, but unless we know for sure that PSO 2 is comming to NA/out of japan, then what's the point? Really would like a confirmation or announcement or something. Anyway, it looks cool, will the PSVita be able to handle PSO 2?

If the quality of the game is similar to the PC version then I guess I'll have to get a Vita, it sure beats having to upgrade my computer, and the Vita may drop in price by the time this game is out.

I wonder... if one is to state that, for the Vita, Gameplay will be online only; is it safe/logical to assume PC will have an offline mode?

by Mike on Fri, 03/09/2012 - 6:50pm

Both PC and Vita versions lack an offline mode.

SEGA better add an offline mode to the Playstation Vita version as well cause if they don't this game is a waste of time.

Oh My God! PSO2 on the PS Vita. That's the best news I have heard in a very long time. I've given up hope of ever seeing an English language version of PSP2 Infinity and I like all the things I have been hearing about PSO2 but I don't play PC games at all ( ever ) so I can not begin to tell you how happy I am that I can now buy PSO2 for the PS Vita. For a while there I thought I would never, ever play another Phantasy Star game ever again.

The cross-platform play sounds very fascinating. When you say 'character data' does that mean you can take your PSO2 people on the go using PSV? If so, that's awesome! :O

by the sound of it, as you haracters no matter were you are, as longpso2 is an online only game meaning you can play with your have internet access.

Great. Does that mean the PC version is coming in 2013, as well? Why are they wasting time on Vita? Getting the PC version done should be their priority right now.

the only way i'll bother with the Vita, is if sony drops the price to compete with the 3DS, and online only? ehh I liked PSO and psu (for the most part) for their offline modes, only way this would work if the game is free to play online, and have a pay service like most mmos now for in game content, or exclusive missions. etc but I hope it gets at least a wii u release as well, something to look forward to for next gen

Great so does this mean there’s going to be a slowdown in game content updates to cater for a handheld? I guess the real question is are we just dealing another monthly trickle of unlocked content again like we did with PSU or will we be seeing real updates and game expansions like we would with a real MMO? This is mostly why I want PSO2 to be PC only. PC means quicker updates, console means the game is tied down to dated console system hardware like PSU was to the PS2, and because of the way Microsoft handles updates and doesn’t cross platform servers we get a split community.

I agree, at least with a PC i could play it. and I hope it comes out for the other next gen home consoles tho, its how I got into PSO originally was on gamecube 4 player split screen, many hours played at parties with that game

I had PSU:AotI on PS2. Had the HD for FFXI, too. So when they started changing drastically, I kept hoping they would let PS2HD users update it the same way. Maybe it was possible, maybe not. Total waste, though. Anyway, it should be possible in the first place if they set it up that way from the beginning. Consoles ARE possible, but are they willing to go through with it? I am looking forward to this game on the Vita. However, if it IS pay-to-play, I may not play it unless I'm by chance in fair financial standing by then.

If its going to be on the PS Vita does that mean the game will support voice chat like PSO did on the XBox?

This sounds like really retarded idea. Why put a game that was designed for PC and works best on PC on a device that wasn't designed for that type of play. There is no offline mode either >_> They really should have just made a phantasy star from scratch that works well with a handheld setup.

by Fred Duck on Sun, 03/11/2012 - 8:26am
When they first announced it, didn't Sonic Team say it was NOT coming out on consoles so they wouldn't have to hobble development? And now it's coming out on vita? That's retarded. Clearly, sony paid them big bucks for that. Of course, since it's not really scheduled for release outside Japan, it doesn't really matter that much to me but still... (I was clearly unhappy enough to register to post this comment.)

Sakai explains that they plan to concentrate on getting the PC version out first. The PlayStation Vita version, which is being worked on by another team at present, won’t be released until sometime in 2013.

This sparked my interest for a Vita at first, but then I read online only. That really turns me off even if it is F2P. I can't get the PC version(Mac user), and seeing as the most portable gaming I do is on my iPod touch during trips I'm not really willing to spend $250 on a new handheld so that leaves one option for me: PSO 2 on PS3. If that's not happening I'm not getting this game. It probably wouldn't include an offline mode anyway.

Im glad the game is online only. The reason its online only is because they dont want anyone hacking. IT was easy to hack before because with the offline mode data was stored on on the system instead of their servers so data was hacked easy. Which they already stated this is the reason so deal with it. The PC is set up for a controller so will be easly to play on and now adays every PC has HDMI so its easy to hook up to your tv. And thre graphics are not the best out there so you dont need a super computer to play it. Also the avaerage 500 dolla compter at walmart even has the specs to play any game on the market so its not a big deal. Hope to see you all when its released. IF ya dont buy it then sorry but you wont be missed :P

even PSU was easy to hack tho, and it was online only, it just depends if sega will actually do somehting about it eg more game staff

PSU had offline stored data. thats what was hacked and they had to fix it.

Looks like I've officially found a legitimate reason to invest in a PS Vita. Being able to play your PC characters on-the-go with the handheld is a fantastic concept. I just hope it works out.

no offline mode. waste of time. waste of money. everyone knows they are not playing this game at all.
