by NitroPenguinz on Thu, 05/24/2012 - 3:30pm
theres a link above that says the registration period is now, click it, if your using chrome use it to translate the Japanese then register a Sega ID. Go yo ur email and complete the registration. Then there should be a button that says use registration or something like that. Scroll down until you reach pso2. click it sign up and then wait for an email then u get to play =]

Registering... Sorry if it sounds confusing... Hmm So pretty much go to the "Update: The registration site has opened." above^. Next you have to create a new sega ID and use a new email address that was not already used for a new sega ID. On the page, click the first Big Blue button. Enter your new email address. Register your new sega ID and other info, when your done registering, you will get a new email to finish registering and then you will be able to go to a website they send you that has different other things to register for but only look for pso2. Its pretty much self explanatory from there.

This should be a lot of fun. I've never participated in a beta before...should be pretty awesome, saying it's the only MMORPG that I ever gave a crap about playing, lol.

by slave2pso on Sun, 05/27/2012 - 2:22pm
slave2pso's picture
"Pouny" eh? Nice. I think I'll have to steal that, and use it as my character's name. Also guy, it's not an MMORPG (and it's better because of that!)

why do people not consider PSO and similar games MMORPGs? here's from wikipedia, under their page for mmorpg: " MMORPGs are distinguished from single-player or small multi-player RPGs by the number of players, and by the game's persistent world (usually hosted by the game's publisher), which continues to exist and evolve while the player is offline and away from the game. PSO2 seems to meet all of those attributes, as did PSO and PSU. I can see calling the PSP games non-mmo, but what makes PSO1-2 not an mmo?

by slave2pso on Thu, 05/31/2012 - 2:53pm
slave2pso's picture
Because games like PSO, Guild Wars, etc, are heavily instanced in the gameplay areas, while games like WoW (what most people consider the archetype all mmorpg's aspire to) are not, and several hundreds of players can play concurrently in the same gameplay area. Though, Wow does have instanced dungeons, that up to 40 people per group can play in.

alright, I get it. still find it silly. thats like saying that metroid isn't a sidescroller/platformer because it's got way more powerups and moves much more organically than mario bros, which most sidescrollers aspire to be like. Not trying to troll at all, I just find the more recent "re-categorizing" of games irksome. (like zelda games "not being rpgs"... haha)

by slave2pso on Fri, 06/01/2012 - 7:44am
slave2pso's picture
Games can comprise of several different genre elements, but when stamping a genre to a game, for brevity sake, typically it's the most prevalent genre the game represents. In Zelda's case, it's not the RPG aspect that's the most prevalent - it's the action adventure (or whatever genre Zelda is defined as these days). And going back to MMO's, games like PSO are simply called: "Multiplayer RPG's", and can't be considered true MMO's, because they're heavily instanced, and you're not playing with a MASSIVE amount of players at a time. I think Guild Wars is still classified as MMORPG, despite being heavily instanced. It might have something to do with the fact that, ostensibly, from afar, it looks like a traditional MMO, so people call it an MMORPG; I don't know, I don't play that game, so can't speak for it.

by thematesV2 on Fri, 06/01/2012 - 1:59pm
thematesV2's picture
so i guess I agree with most of that. I don't remember anyone ever calling a game a "multiplayer rpg" though. It fits, but i've never heard it. it's either an online rpg, or an mmo. so how many other games exist where you can play online with massive mount of people. rather than massive mounts in lobbys, and minimal amounts in fields/dungeons? I haven't played many "mmorpgs" but every one I have, it's limited to 3-6 players in field, then any number in lobby. James

Sorry, I meant to add "online" to "Multiplayer online RPG" - that is the genre PSO is classified as. There are several MMORPG's out there, such as: Everquest, Final Fantasy XI, Final Fantasy XIV, Lord of the Rings online, Conan online, Aion, Tera, Ragnarok online, Lineage, etc. I'm like you though, I mostly play multiplayer online RPG's, like PSO; I prefer playing either solo or with a small group, where it's less chaotic and easier to strategise.

When you register for a Japanese SEGA ID would that be your Global SEGA ID or just for the Japanese region/version of the game do you think?

by NitroPenguinz on Mon, 06/04/2012 - 6:49pm
i googled katakana and looked at the authentication and just copied and pasted, it didn't work, but i dont think thats actually the invite

by Stearns on Sat, 06/02/2012 - 11:01am
Got an invite as well but can't confirm it due the image authentication being in katakana. Any workaround?

Maybe a dumb question. Will we have to sign into our Sega id's to obtain the pre-beta? Also, if we have the software for the closed-beta will that allow us to participate?

by PSchiZ on Wed, 06/06/2012 - 3:26pm
PSchiZ's picture
What exactly do you mean 'obtain'? Obtain as download the software? And yes, you're supposed to keep the closed beta software for further updates for the game

by Rootsuki on Fri, 06/08/2012 - 4:02pm
Rootsuki's picture
Yes, in other words, is the sega id needed to play the pre-beta? I only ask because I don't know if the closed-beta software has anything to do with it.
