Phantasy Star Universe Xbox 360 Servers to be Shutdown on September 7th
By Ryna at 06/08/2012 - 3:38pm
Ambition of the IlluminusEdward, a Sega GM, announced today that the Phantasy Star Universe Xbox 360 servers will be shutdown on September 7th. The reason cited for the shutdown was the level of support that could be provided for Phantasy Star Universe Xbox 360 servers while Sega prepares to release new games. Once the servers have been shutdown, only the single player version of the game will be available. Players with an active Guardians license will have their subscription refunded on a pro-rated basis following the shutdown.

You can discuss this news in this on-going forum thread.

I used the play psu on 360 passionately, and all I got to say is, it's about time. Down with the bloody red phantasy star!

Not a nice way to really think about it, it was the only online PS game we had except PSP2, sad to see it go.....

I logged in just to post to this. F**k MMO's, I wasted 4 years of my life on PSU. I stopped playing a while ago for obvious reasons, it's about time that its dead. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to catch up after those 4 years of monotony on awesome games I missed out on...goodbye MMO community.

by NitroPenguinz on Fri, 06/15/2012 - 12:15am
and good riddance

by psyconinja117 on Fri, 06/08/2012 - 5:02pm

Yeah, you and I need to finally do some runs together on PSO2, Ovada. =D But you seem to be pretty well known/popular so I may not get a chance. =P Take care, see ya. lol

by rockx2886 on Fri, 06/08/2012 - 7:25pm

In all honesty, I did have a great time on the 360 psu, met plenty of kool and stupid people, but the game just started getting annoying. People were acting as if the game was a dating site. Hence it's other nick name: PSUHarmony. Plus there were lots of content we were missing that the JP servers had forever and we were somewhat just starting to get them. It was little by little though. It's seems like they didn't take the 360 version seriously. I'm also aware that there wasn't enough people playing for them to make much of a profit, and everyone needs money. It was a great game, but I think this is for the best.

Hopefully this is a sign of the western release of pso2.

Only issue I have atm, PSO2 has NO console aside Vita (which isnt a console, but a handheld) so why ditch PSU? its still bringing in cash flow, so im confused, your still making a profit from it, but lets shut it down?

i don't understand your post are you for it or agents it being shutdown

well its not like PSO2 can force people to pay to play it, theres the flaw in their logic, why shut down a game thats still bringing in revenue, from a business standpoint, and sega isnt doing well these days finacially, they need all the money they can get

Meh, good riddance I say. Who'd want to play with those juvenile idiots over XBOX Live, anyway. The PC/PS2 servers were a much more amicable community.

by NitroPenguinz on Sun, 06/10/2012 - 7:36pm
You know its those bratty little 12 year old's. And all those pissed-off CoD fanboys, who always rage when they die. And also the annoying Bf3 vs CoD vs Halo war everyone bitches about. Other than that it is just fine, just depends on what games you play.

by NitroPenguinz on Sun, 06/10/2012 - 7:33pm
Ah... I met so many nice people on Psu. Like everybody i met was nice, and i only met assholes sometimes. I played for two years. If it werent for my one friend who recommended the demo to me, i wouldnt even be here. While he and many of my other friends who i got playing Psu have stopped, i havent. While i am getting sick of Psu's combat system because its absolutely horrible, I still like going on, talking with some people, sharing memories and stories, etc. Honestly, to me, this game will be missed. I felt truly sad when I heard this news, as Psu is one of my all-time favorite games, suppose it is time to move on, as this game has spanned for 6 great years. Cant wait to relive all these new memories in Pso2. So yea, we will see what Sega has in store for us. =]

PSU's combat system was amazing and ahead of its time. The Photon Art attack animations were beautifully designed and fun to perform. The controls, however, were inappropriately mapped in the 360 version, which might of led to you not enjoying the combat quite as much. When I played the PC version, I mapped the attack and PA attack to the shoulder buttons (RB and RT) and Lock-on to (LT). This made it feel incredibly comfortable and easy to manipulate the camera and attack at the same time. Honestly, the gameplay was the best thing about PSU. S-ranking S missions and earning PA frags, then using those frags to buy expensive Photon Arts (such as Megid, Anga Jabroga, etc), and then leveling those Photon Arts and showing them off. It was very rewarding and far greater than the combat systems of most online RPG's today; much better than just click-click-clicking on stuff, anyway...

They didnt even have to shut them down. Sega could've just made the game f2p instead. And i really miss the pc servers. Had a lot of good memories on there. In fact why not just put PSU on Steam? Sega, over these past years, have been making weird business decisions.

about time they did it. but now we worry about the psu player coming to the jp server and hope they keep quite. plus side that note that not only reason why pulling the plug for the game. but not gonna say dam thing about it. JUST HOPE FOR THE SAKE OF US PLAYER to learn to be cool and be nice and don't start no trouble in jp server if they do come to join the PC JP server

I think it's time Sega returns PSO to consoles now that the inferior PSU is over on Xbox 360. A f2p PSO2 on both Xbox 360 and PS3 would bring in a lot of players and ultimately an MMO's lifespan is determined by how populated it is. It's in their hands now and hopefully they'll make the smart choice.

I can see a PS3 version if the Vita version takes off well, but I highly doubt there will ever be a 360 version after what happened to PSU.

by NitroPenguinz on Fri, 06/15/2012 - 10:18am
it lasted for 6-7 years. it practically lived through the 360's entire life-span. It started off really well, but as the years went by it just faded out.

I have to agree with Macman we have a lot hope for the ps3 an for the vita that ftw and also for the PC. But no way in hell we want Microsoft put there dirty hand on pso2

Fine by me. I'm a PS3 player anyway. I won't be getting a vita though so I'm really hoping for it to come to a home console.

I wouldnt say it was inferior, IMO it improved alot in some areas that PSO needed, but also flopped in other areas, but to each is his own, as for smart choices, sega hasnt been to good with those, not since genesis anyways, anything after that was just one mess after another, now im only hoping that PSO2 gets a good release over here stateside so we dont have to resort to 3rd party patches etc

Does anyone know what time on the 7th of september its ending because im in the uk. . I think they should have kept it going. Even if they just left it they way it was and made it free for everyone.. really so much people love this game and why do the japanese people get it extended i dont think that is very fair. So what i think sega should do Make psu aoi free forever They dont have to update it because im happy with all current missions. i mean they will make alot of money off of pso 2 :3 so whats the problem Plus what i dont get it why they made the psp versions free. :/ really.. and it was online. So Dear sega Hope you read this... I mean why not even extend it untill pso2 comes out in the uk.. if it does T_T Remember you got uk players to you know.

I think this news about Phantasy star Universe Xbox 360 servers going to shutdown is really a bad news for the players. Hope that the shutting down of servers will be soon done without much trouble to the game lovers and soon the single player version will be released. more
