• Phantasy Star Online 2 Will Make Western Debut at PAX Prime

According to a press release from SEGA PR today, Phantasy Star Online 2 will be one of nine playable games showcased by SEGA at this year's Penny Arcade Expo in Seattle. While there isn't any detail in the release about exactly what parts of PSO2 players will have a chance to try out, it is probably safe to assume that this means there is at least a localized demo of the game. The full list of SEGA's PAX line-up is as follows:

  • Aliens: Colonial Marines™
  • The Cave™
  • Hell Yeah!™- Wrath of the Dead Rabbit
  • Jet Set Radio™
  • NiGHTS into dreams… ™
  • Phantasy Star Online 2™
  • Sonic Adventure™ 2
  • Unannounced digital title

  • PAX Prime will run from August 31st through September 2nd and anyone attending can check out these games at booths #242 and #252. We'll be sure to post any more details we can get about the build of the game and its localization progress. In the meantime, though, feel free to hop on over to the PSO2 Forums, where there is still a lot of discussion going on regarding the Japanese release of the game, which launched to more than 700,000 players in July.

I thought exactly the same when I saw Jet Set Radio and NiGHTS into Dreams

There are only 8 games in the list. Could that mean a second unannounced title?
Edit: The news post missed Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed.

I am little lost here too. Did they just kind of hit a massive amount of jet lag and thought it was like... 10 year ago?

wow pso2 getting credited for 700k players. That definately is not Japan alone. and here we're getting segregated. Racism all over again.

I BELIEVE these announced titles (Sonic Adventure 2, NiGHTS into dreams, Jet Set Radio) are for digital release for Xbox Live and Playstation Network. Which is AWESOME, because I never got a chance to play two of these games when they came out for Dreamcast. So, needless to say, I'm excited~.

Showing PSO2 to the public on a puny event such as PAX... this obviously, clearly, UNMISTAKENLY shows that Sega doesn't give a crap about the western community.

I mean, if they really wanted to get as many players as possible, they'd just put make a closed press conference where they'd reveal such important information like how many lines of code the thing has!

......... these games sound stupid... save the jet set, NiGHTS, pso2, and sa2.... Those titles are serious turn-offs.... also WTF is "PAX?"

I just wish that they announced it before E3 or at least had it in comic con T_T but "PAX," I DONT EVEN KNOW WHAT THAT IS!!!

That would make a LOOOOT of sense, seeing as SA1 was recently put up on Steam along with other classic SEGA titles.

      1. Don't knock PAX. It's a fun show.
      2. Doesn't it show at least a little bit of enthusiasm for the title on the part of SoA that they're putting together a presentation for the game to appear at the first trade show since the American announcement? They could just as easily have announced the game for Western release and not bothered to say a damn thing about it until next year's E3.

From one Cast to another, I recommend you to check your sarcasm sensors, as they seem to have some form of malfunction. When was your last system maintenance?

PAX stands for "Penny Arcade Expo", an annual exposition set up by the creators of the Penny Arcade webcomic.

E3 in my opinion would have been much smarter then PAX. However, ive read on the PAX website forums that people are actually flying from different states to attend the event. Its no as small as you think ;D.

ya know, they couldve gotten way more publicity showing off pso2 at gamescon instead, and its only a few days a way from pax, so... prep wouldve been as easy

I have to agree with you on that. Them announcing it to be at PAX, no matter how small it is, is a good step to show that they actually care about this game and are showing some kind of integrity and good disposition. I'm proud of them for this and i hope someone will be recording the gameplay and/or presentation and uploading it to YouTube. (Pretty please) (^_^)

The game was barely up for Demos in japan which is why they probably didn't put a demo up for E3. The other events.. I am not so sure. Depends on when they decided to start the english translation.
