New Article System is Live!
By Ryna at 07/19/2008 - 22:28
PSOWPSO-World's news system has received a complete make-over! Now integrated with our forum software, the news article system has received some major feature upgrades. Here is a breakdown:
  • Bookmarking Links - Use your favorite online bookmarking services to bookmark PSO-World stories for future reference.
  • Interactive News Archive - This news search system offers several powerful ways to search through PSO-World's vault of past stories. After you've started your search, be sure to use the Guided Search box to narrow down the list of matching articles.
  • Readable URLs - The URL will now give some indication as to what the story is about.
  • Print-Friendly Service - Simply click on a news story and you'll see a printer icon in the lower-right corner. Click it to see a printer-friendly version of the story and its comments.
  • News Categories - Want to see all of the stories associated with a particular category? Just click on a story tag or one of the links in the right-side "News Categories" box on the front page!
  • RSS Feeds - The front page and each news category now offers its own RSS feed. This will give readers several new ways to read and view stories.
In addition, PSO-World would like to welcome S-T-H to the news staff. He is an avid community supporter and maintainer of PSU Times - a Phantasy Star Universe blog. He'll be contributing Phantasy Star Universe news to the site.

Be sure to check out PSO-World regularly for the latest in Phantasy Star news!

Oh wtf? What happened to my awesome redness and Red Ring Rico header? Ugh, I do not like this change.

The new layout looks somewhat brilliant! And funny thing is that this is just a fansite rather than an official site. Way to go guys!

It look great, glad you integrated it all. Main page looked shabby ever since the forums got updated.

Only one feature I dont like though. Who the hell prints out news stories? Sure, its a common feature on sites, but who the hell uses it? Only time I ever see anyone trying to print things on forums/sites, its bots.

Printer friendly pages can be handy if you're ever viewing a site on a mobile device, or something that can't properly display a normal page. Also can be good for search engine indexing ;) Yeah, I don't see too many people actually printing off news stories, though. Guess you never know :D

Didnt even think about mobile devices. :P

Speaking of which, is there a way to get all the news as a whole, in one RSS feed? I know each news area has its own, but I already have lots of Feeds as it is, let alone a few for this site alone, when one for all the news would work best for me.

Here you go. A good browser usually has a way of giving notification if a site has a feed. I unfortunately didn't notice that we were lacking the link to the general RSS feed. I'm sure one will be added soon. I apologize for not being responsive so far. I'm sure everything will fall into place quite soon though.
