• PSO version 2 and PSO 2 News

    HI there, Myau1 here. My brother, who works for Sega called me a few nights ago with some disturbing PSO news. The first he told me was that PSO version 2 is coming to the U.S. but that it will not be arriving until fall of this year. Apparently the buzz around there is October. The second news was about PSO 2. According to him, PSO 2 is currently in development for the Playstation 2 and is schedueled for a fall 2002 release. While all this news came from a Sega employee, it should be taken with a grain of salt for now, but the news does seem to make a whole lot of sense.



    As long as PSO2 remains in development for the DC it's not an issue.

      When I attended the Game Devlopers Con in late march, the fine folks at the sega booth mentioned that PSO2 would be coming out late this year for the DC and Ver 2 would more likely be out this summer.Also Sonic Team has announced the PSO2 is going to be released for the DC, so I wouldn't worry that it'll be a PS2 exclusive.
      im not sure a PS2 release is wise for fall 2002,as the brainiacs at sony STILL havent got a Net infostructure for the PS2 up yet. But if they do, by early next year us DC owners will hopefully get PSO2 and then have more folks visit us with their PS2s by the fall/winter of 2002...sounds like a win win situation...

      pso might just become a multi playtform online game, ive heard from some friends in japan, that sonic team might just be makeing pso2 for GC as well, but alot sooner than 2002,

      since its going to be released in japan on may 15th or 20nd whenever now it should be in america in either late june or early july I hope so too because I cannot go much longer without this game it owns all!!!!!!!

      FIVE months to translate a game that's in english to begin with? I don't buy it for a second. As for PSO 2 for the PS2, I hope there are separate servers. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see cross-console peace and harmony just as much as the next guy, but somehow I don't see it happening that way.

      We're entitled to our opinions just like you are =P. I won't say the PS2 sucks because I don't own one or have any desire to ever purchase one. And as long as its developed for any other platform I'll still get my fix.

      You know I see only one problem with this rumor about PSO v2 coming out on the PS2.. does it not bother you that the PS2 has no modem?? So as it costs $300-$400 now you'd have to buy another external modem and that's more $$$.. I don't think there's any base to this story.. and on another note the over priced dvd player makes a great foot rest or doorstop but other than that it's just junk to me...lest till the price is more reasonable..

      OK! Ps2 is a good machine with no really good games to speak of, except ZOE..Onimusha. Those who hate Sony or Ps2 wont know that!..PSO for Ps2..possable..but with no modem..um!...Psover2..will be released soon..I dont pay attention to a lot of people that say they work for Sega..unless the are from Japan..Sega employes are also vunerable to rumors just like the all of us. Just listen for official words and do not post rumors!

      HOGWASH! To quote you, "Apparently the buzz...", that's all it is, a buzz, a rumour, whatever you want to call it. In any case, what dept. does he work in? Judging from "the buzz", he doesn't seem to be in a very reliable position to be giving out this kind of info.If anyone cares, I have a friend who's a programmer and he's working on the US translation as we speak. The reason they haven't announced anything is to build up the hype. Therefore, that is why there has been no confirmation on the release date. He did point out that they may announce it at E3. Also, the BBA needs a game to promote it, which game do you think it'll be? {.^_^.}

      yo i went to eb today and guess what i found out. Eb has a US release date 4 late june not october. i hope this is true id trust a video game store employee then a sega employee since well its more rumor then fact what sega ppl say. havent heard about pso 2 though i doubt it will come out 4 ps2 maybe x-box but not pso2.it will probaly come out 4 dc too so keep ur fingers crossed 4 a june release and ill post more info as i get it.

      I've got a few things to get off my chest...
      This past Sunday(Easter), at about 11:45 I signed on to PSO World, and replied to the article on the 10 new PSO ver.2 screenshots, and "exploded" on a few people... well almost everyone who had something negative to say about the whole thing. Well, I'm sorry. I don't remember any of the names of the members or visitors of PSO World that I offended, but if you or anyone else who might be reading this was one of them I'm sorry, and I DEEPLY apologize. Really! I mean I was already pissed-off because my level 62 HUmar was erased in a power-outage, and when I read what some of you guys had to say... I went crazy. Like I said, I'm sorry.       Im not trying to step on any toes here , bit when is the last EB gave out fasle info. I've heard many times of EB employees telling us fellow gamers that Gamecube has been postpones for next year and that shen- mu 2 would not be made with little or no proof to back these things up. and NO there books do not mean a thing I've seen many game in which where on that list that was iehter late or not made at all. The truth of the matter is NO ONE except Sega knows when and if this game is coming out and as a PSO freaks like ourselves let's just hope and pray it makes and makes here soon.

      Of course! Why wouldn't PSO ver.2 be released in Europe? If the first was released in Europe(it was released in Europe wasn't it?) then the second will also be released in Europe. Now, I don't know WHO got the idea into your head that it wouldn't be heading your way, but they've obviously got their information from the wrong guy or girl. You can rest assured Phat-Daddy that you WILL get your second-helping of PSO goodness. A fellow PSO fanatic. Black Magic.

      I got it from PSO World. It was titled "PSO Version 2 | More Euro News" and included a reply from sega to an email asking whether PSO Ver.2 would be released in Europe. The reply stated...
      "SEGA Europe still have no plans to introduce the updated PSO in Europe primarily because of the reason highlighted in your message, i.e. 'charging full price for an add-on disc'. However, as always such decisions are subject to market forces and public opinion, and as such your comments will be logged on our database."
      I have added my name to the petition at http://www.petitiononline.com/psoeuro/petition.html and am about to email SEGA myself, but would like to know if there is any more recent news on the possibility of SEGA changing its mind about Europe. PD.

      I also work in this industry and PSO2 is NOT, i REPEAT, NOT coming out on the Playstation 2.Where do you people create this bullshit from??And furthermore....why??? How the hell are you supposed to play Phantasy Star "Online" without a modem??? And there is no modem slated for Sony's machine in the near or distant future.Come on guys,be more original than THAT!!!

      hey i just got to say one thing, just relax every one. if it comes out here(US) it comes out here, and if it doesn't, ohwell. it would be a bad move on the behalf of sega, but hey sega has made many bad move in the video game industry. don't listen to other rumors because that is what they are, RUMORS. the only information that i will listen to is the info from the people at sega. anything else doesn't matter. so till ver.2 or PSO2 comes out in the states, have fun with PSO and find some rares!

      Well said, it's not life or death after all. However.... I really really really want PSO ver.2 to come out in Europe. Although I could live with it, I would feel left out if it's not released here (EU). The player levels on PSO will drop much faster if there are better PSO2 servers available for those that can use them.
