As you most likely already know, Sega has announced a new game for the PS series mysteriously called "Phantasy Star Universe." Here's the full article by IGN: May 12, 2004 - Phantasy Star Online fans who were disappointed that Sonic Team declared Phantasy Star Online Episode III: C.A.R.D. Revolution the last installment in the PSO series or those turned off by the card based nature of Ep. III had better turn that frown upside down. In Sega's booth at E3 2004, Sonic Team held its "stealth announcement" of its latest project -- Phantasy Star Universe. What exactly is Universe? According to Sonic Team, "it's a rebirth of a legend." But, we don't really know. IGNcube learned from Sega that this title is so far in the future that they aren't allowed to release any details. The trailer, which aired every two hours, was merely there as a teaser for fans of the series -- telling them that there is something coming. Platforms weren't even revealed, although we imagine that it will definitely be on GameCube because of the large PSO user base (and it's the traditional PSO platform now that the Dreamcast is defunct). There have also been rumors that a PSO game is slated to appear on PS2, so Universe might be Sonic Team's initial foray onto Sony's console. Xbox is a possibility because Episodes I & II were released in 2003 -- heck, it could even be a PC title (we doubt it since PC is getting Blue Burst. Pure speculation. The only other concrete details we learned was that this is going to be an action MMORPG. Does this mean it'll be akin to Phantasy Star Online? Or, will it resemble Final Fantasy XI? All we know is that it's going to be a while before we find out -- especially since the trailer revealed "just started..." The trailer itself lasted a little under four minutes. The first minute and a half was a brief introduction to the new title. Apparently, it will be Phantasy Star Online 2 because it's a whole new game that takes place in a whole new world. The rather ambiguous thing is that the trailer references both Phantasy Star Online 2 (which is what we think this is) and Phantasy Star V. The rest of the trailer was composed of highly detailed full motion video. The most noticeable thing? FMV sequences. Next? Sonic Team has overhauled the art style for universe -- everything looks a bit smoother (although it does maintain some similar elements). The trailer roves from lush grass to a futuristic city. You watch as a character jumps out into the air onto a hover board, activates some sort of suit, and then zips off into the horizon. Later, a similar theme is displayed when a different character morphs into a beast. For the finale, a group of adventures fight a giant two headed dragon/lizard creature. The trailer is simply amazing. Watch it here. Trust us, we'll report back with more on Phantasy Star Universe as soon as details are available. It's gonna be a long wait, so watch the trailer now , seriously. Check out IGN's media here.

Gamespot released news today that reveals Sammy will be taking over Sega in a stock buyout and will be merging into one new company called Sega Sammy Holdings. The two companies won't become immediately integrated, but plan to be by 2007. Also according to the article, "Starting July 1, Sega's seven subsidiaries--Sega Wow, Sega AM2, Hitmaker, Sonic Team, Smilebit, Amusement Vision, and Digitalrex, will begin integrating back into Sega." What does this mean for the future of Sonic Team and PSO?

psosaladwood writes, "Sega's stock jumps, but not because of PSO.
Apparently the Asian Wall Street Journal reported that Microsoft and EA are interested in buying out part of, or all of Sega. However, Sega said it had recieved no offers.
"Fri February 28, 2003 04:36 AM ET TOKYO (Reuters) - Shares in Japanese video game maker Sega Corp. 7964.T soared on Friday after a media report that Microsoft Corp. and top U.S. game publisher Electronic Arts Inc. were considering billion-dollar takeover bids for the company.
The Asian Wall Street Journal said the U.S. companies wanted to buy all or part of Sega, which is already involved in merger discussions with fellow Japanese game maker Sammy Corp.
The report sparked a buying spree for shares in Sega, which had a market capitalization of 129.4 billion yen as of Friday.
The Journal, quoting people familiar with the situation, said Microsoft MSFT.O and EA ERTS.O were separately exploring the possibility of buying all or part of Sega, famous for its "Sonic the Hedgehog" character, but had yet to hold formal talks.
The sources were quoted as saying no deal was imminent.
The stock rose 15.63 percent, their daily limit of 100 yen, to close at 740 yen in a generally weaker market.
The news emerged two weeks after Sega, Japan's largest game arcade operator, said it would merge with Sammy Corp 6426.T , the country's largest maker of pinball-style 'pachinko' game machines, and would abandon plans to restructure on its own. "

psosaladwood writes, "Sega's PSO EP 3 website is up and available in both Japanese and English versions here. The Japanese version has a little bit more information compared to the English one.
Release dates for the game are as follows for Nintendo Gamecube: JP: 4th Quarter 2003 North America: 1st Quarter 2004 Europe: 1st Quarter 2004
You can read more at the website.
Update: Sega also released their own PSO E3 EP 3 webpage. They reiterate that GC EP 1 & 2 will have access to the same visual lobbies of GC Ep 3 because Ep 3 will have similar Ep 1 & 2 visual lobby setup. Meaning: players of the two different games will be able to idle, converse and meet in the same visual lobby. Players on Ep 3 will still be able to hang out and chat with their old buddies on Ep 1 & 2.
There is also the E3 2003 exhibition promotion movie on the site."

psosaladwood writes, "I just called Sega of America tech support, twice. According to two different Sega of America tech support people, they are unaware of any FSOD problems, and aren't aware of any "double-saving process." They'll have to "look into it and call back."
If they do call back, I'll post what their response is.
If you would like to call Sega of America tech support, the number is (716)650-6701. It is also in the manual. Please be aware of long distance charges if you're not in their area. Maybe, if more people call and work together, it'll alert them on the urgency of the problem and get them to post an official comment. If you can't call and would like to voice your opinion, use the Sega Customer Service Online Form on the Sega website.
Check this thread for the ongoing discussion. One of our members, thewiredknight claims to have talked to a Sega tech support person that said that they are aware of the problem and are trying to fix the FSOD's without removing the double save method. However, we cannot vouch for the validity of this news since we did not make the call and we had conflicting results.
So let's hope that they do call back with some news."

psosaladwood writes, "Sonic Team posted today that due to limited server room, pictures on the Visual BBS dating from September 2002 until October 2002, will be deleted. Old pictures will be deleted routinely from now on to free up server room for new pictures.
Easter lobby decorations is also going up! The lobby decoration will be in place on Monday, April 21st until Wednesday, April 30th (JP). Get ready to start hunting those much anticipated egg rappies and getting those Easter eggs!
Sonic Team also posted saying that a completely new quest "Bottom of the Heart," is coming. The quest will be added on Wednesday, April 30th, right when the Easter event ends. This is an exciting quest as it's storyline will serve to solve mysteries and answer PSO rumors. This extensive quest will have you going through several Episode 2 areas. Elly, from the offline quest "Knowing One's Heart" will also be present and will journey with you through the quest while you protect her. This is going to be quite a challenging quest and will require you to be skillful and you will need to have previously cleared the CCA. You will also be possibly facing a new enemy (bottom picture says Del Lily!!). Looking at the last picture shown here, could this quest possibly introduce us to the control tower itself? While we can now speculate on the contents of this new exciting quest, Sonic Team has promised that we will get more information on this new quest in a week so we will be getting more definite information and details soon.
Please note that the above parts of this newspost is only applicable to GC PSO. Thanks to Atax for submitting information on the new quest.
On an unrelated note, US customers have reportedly begun receiving their Datel Powerboards since yesterday. You can join the discussion here."

And don't forget our handy dandy guide for hunting Egg Rappies solo here or the guide for hunting rappies multi player here. Egg rappies are out and about dropping Easter Eggs in VR Temple! More pictures in our Screenshots section. Our Snapple finally found them! The current Easter Egg items are: Remember that you can do a soft reset (Start + Y+ X + B) offline to "shuffle" between the Easter Egg items. It is also safe to travel through JP and US lobby servers with it. We now have pictures for all the new items and all item stats have been updated. You can join the discussion in our forums here. Be advised that this is just on the Gamecube, we just checked out Xbox and they have Cherry Blossoms up in the lobby. "

psosaladwood writes, "I emailed Sega a few days ago, asking when Xbox PSO would be coming out since Ebgames and Gamestop are both now showing a release date of April 22nd.
Sega had this to say:
"Thank you for e-mailing Sega Technical Support. I'm sorry, but it is in now in our understanding that Microsoft is handling all aspects of PSO for Xbox, including publishing. Thus, I do not have any release dates available. Please refer back to them for help with any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
-Jason Sega of America Technical Support"
Okay so then we contacted Chris at XBox Chat Support to verify this information and this was what we got from Microsoft:
"I'm afraid that contradicts the information we have on our site. According to our information, Sega is the game's publisher as it always has been for PSO when released on any console."
Confused? I know I am! We'll try contacting them again in a few days to see if there's any change."
