GameFront, a German Gaming Magazine, has new information regarding the weapons and combat system in Phantasy Star Universe. This sheds a little light on what the gameplay in PSU may be like, and also on what purpose dual wielding will serve. Here's the scoop from the article:The weapons are divided into three categories: the Hou system (Rods, Canes, etc.), Hit system (Sabers, Swords, etc.) and Shooting system (Handguns, Machineguns, Rifles, etc.) The right hand can only hold one weapon out of the Hou and Hit systems, and the left holds only one Shooting weapon. Only two weapons can be held at the same time in the fight. Examples for this combination include holding a Rifle in the left hand and a Rod in the right hand. Another example includes a Handgun in the left hand and a Saber in the right. Magic is executable only with the Hou systems. Apparently, you can't use any techniques unless you have a Hou system weapon equipped. Several attack samples in the Action pallet can be specified. You can save your favorite combinations of weapons and attacks. With combination attacks, one can press a key for a '3 hit Combo' which hits the enemy three times, while a '6 a hit Combo' leads to a 'Combo finish', which at the end of the attack the enemies get blown off their feet by its power. The special ability of the 'Beast' race is called a 'nano blow'. This changes the beast into a Beastman. The 'Cast' race has to use the special ability 'Sub Weapon' to change weapons into sub-weapons. Not much is known about this at the moment, however. We've also recieved information about the heroine Lou. She apparently belongs to the Guardian group and is a spy. She is a Cast, but looks much like a Human. Her age is still unknown.

Outrider writes, "IGN is reporting that the recent Japanese Shounen Jump has information on Phantasy Star Universe. Apparently it's going to be on PS2 and PC. Aside from that, they only know it'll be an RPG and have some sort of online component."
This is very interesting as many people had said it would come out on a next gen system instead, However given where the PS3 is, its quite possible this may be where things end up. Credit to everyone else who noticed this as well.

kevlar_pso writes, "Microsoft published a list earlier today of a list of games that have been confirmed to work with the XBox 360 at launch. You can find the full list here. Here Are All the "P" Games: - Pariah
- Phantom Crash
- Pinball Hall of Fame
- Pitfall: The Lost Expedition
- Predator Concrete Jungle
- Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
- Pro Evolution Soccer 5
- Pro Race Driver
- Pump It Up: Exceed
- Pure Pinball
- Puyo Pop Fever
As you can see PSO-X has been left off of the list. However, this is not the final cut of original Xbox games that will be emulated for the 360. Microsoft IS adding more so you will need to check back occasionally to see if PSO-X makes the list. "

PSOCecilJake writes, "1up has posted a part of Electronic Gaming Monthly's interview with Yuji Naka, head of Sonic Team. Inside, Naka discusses PS Universe, the next consoles, his like for Nintendo, his history, Sonic, and says that a PSO on PSP might be possible. Destroys the rumors of a PSO DS, doesn't it? "
Indeed it does. Unfortunately this appears to have killed any hopes of the Gamecube or Xbox. In the end it is the right decision however. Given that many people have/will be migrating up to the PC version of PSO (Blue Burst), there's no reason for them continue staying on that console. However... its still possible given how early in development the game is if Sony doesn't even know about it.

Heresme89 writes, "Picture. The article mentions PSU will be the cover story for the next EGM! The article says:
We'd like to keep your nail-biting conditon under control, but the anticipation of Sega's PSU might leave your cuticles screamning for help. Yes, we know we're going to be hitting you with another action-RPG, but it is not our fault that this is one of the best looking game we have ever seen. Phantasy star Online gave us our first real-time online console game and surprisingly hit a home run on its first swing -- you can't chalk that up to beginner's luck. We don't want to give too much away about online play and profile configuration, but we're going to leave you with one word: breasts."
Thanks for the heads up, I'll be certain to grab a copy when I can.

Yuji Naka has kept his word and has proved it in a PSO-World exclusive! We've been given a glimpse of Phantasy Star Online Episode V!
The story goes: A year after the defeat of Olga Flow, a weird series of explosions has been detected at the north pole of Ragol. When a team was sent down to investigate what was going on, contact was lost. Natasha has called on the Hunters again to investigate what happened to the lost team, and find out what is causing the explosions.
Once again you'll be teamed up with Elly. However due to the strong magnetic effect there is at the poles of the planet, communications may not always be possible. It'll be the same as well for telepipes as well so the item shops that were seen in the towers were deployed to the poles after being fitted with specialized heating units to prevent them from freezing.
This is very much an unfinished product at this time so I'm sure you'll see that there are some things missing or that there are some graphical problems, as not all of the graphical elements have been enabled. There's also work of a new HUD going on so that also is missing. This is the bare minimum of what is finished. There weren't even any monsters yet in this video I recieved but map work of the first area is finished as far as I can tell. Also the music appears to be called The Silent Blizzard Of North part 1 from the note I received. Prepare for the biting cold everyone!
Video! You're gonna need divx to view this video and you can pick that up at divx.com.
So you're wondering, "EPISODE V?! We don't even have Episode IV yet, or Blue Burst for that matter!" Don't worry, I've got all of the info. Blue Burst will be coming out this month, and Episode IV coming early summer. Finally Episode V will be released early next year in Japan and a few months after that here in the US. Let the continued explorations of Ragol begin!

Several details of the Phantasy Star Universe launch in Japan were revealed today. First, the PS2 and PC versions of the game will be released on February 16, 2006. Based on this webpage, it appears that in addition to the retail version, Sega Direct will be offering its own special version. Both versions are slated to include a visual guide book and music CD if you preorder the game. However, it looks like the Sega Direct version will be offering an unspecific bonus. The Sega Direct version will cost 6800 yen (about 70 USD), while the retail will be 6120 yen (around 60 USD).
To be able to play online, you will need a Sega Link account. You will be able to obtain it from here. We know that it will be a fee-based service. However, it is unknown how much the fee will be. Additionally, it looks like you maybe able to share your account between the PS2 and PC versions of the game.
Also, the minimum requirements for the PC version of PSU were announced. You can see them here: Operating System: Windows 2000/XP Processor: 1.6 GHz Pentium 4 RAM: 256 MB Hard Drive Space: 8 GB Video Card: 3D card with 64 MB of VRAM Direct X: 9.0 Network Connection: Broadband Additional Comments: DVD Drive required. Credit goes to PhotonCat for spotting this announcement. If you would like to discuss this annoucement, please visit our PSU forum.
EDIT: If you register your Sega Link account by the end of January (registration is free), you will receive an in-game item and have access to an exclusive screensaver. Also, you will be entered into a lottery to receive a Net Cash Card. You can read about the details here.
