kat's ISP Guide
Essentials

The following is a listing of ISPs and their setup, including routers and other connection tricks, that are known to work with the different Phantasy Star Online Systems. It is based on submitted information from PSOWorld members, and is current as of August 7th, 2003. It is NOT ALL of the known working ISPs for PSO.

If you have information to be added to the guide, please include the following information when contacting me:

1) What system do you have? (Dreamcast, PC, Cube, X-box)

2) Do you have dial up or broadband access?

3) What is your internet provider?

4) Did you have to do anything special to make things work?/ if so, what? (routers, special configurations, tap dancing with yellow pollen, etc)

For each system please specify the connectivity. IF you feel giving your location out (a city/state/country zone) would be helpful, please do.

Gamecube Broadband
Belgacom Skynet (Germany) Get the PC to share its connection with a proxy, or a router works too
BT Openworld With a router
Chello Basic (Netherlands) Router with 'Winroute'
Comhem (sweeden)
Comcast Cable/ Comcast High Speed Internet This tends to be finicky. One person has found that a router (Speedstream SS2604 or a SMC Router) works, others have had to tap the 'A' button on the moving star screen right before you get to the information/ship select screen to get the connection to complete, while yet others have had no problems
Earthlink Router or modem
MSN DSL Although it should work without doing anything special, to get it to work consistently one member has found the need to use a router. D-Link D-604 is proven to work.
NTL (UK provider) Be warned that their tech support may tell you that to make this work for the cube you will need to purchase a second MAC number. This is not true, if you use one of these two options: You reset the modem to reset the MAC number by unplugging the modem, plugging the Ethernet into the GC and switch the modem back on. Or get a router.
Plusnet (UK) Gamecube Broadband Adaptor to the PC's network card using a RJ45 Crossover network cable. A router would work instead.
SBC Broadband DSL Straight through modem or with router
Shaw Cable Straight through modem or with router
Telewest Broadband/Blueyonder (UK provider) Straight through modem or with router
Time Warner/Road Runner Modem or router both fine. Or Linksys Router (Wireless)+ Linksys Wireless Ethernet Bridge works fine too!

Wideopenwest (WOW)

Router used, but should be fine straight through modem
Gamecube Dial Up
Maplenet (small Oakhurst CA provider)
1&1 internet power (Germany) 0,49 eurocent per minute between 11pm and 9 am. + 5 euro basic per month)
X-Box (Broadband only)
Earthlink DSL MS MN-500 router, D-Link DI604 Router, straight through modem works too
Time Warner Road Runner Straight through modem or router. Or, Linksys Router (Wireless)+ Linksys Wireless Ethernet Bridge after having gotten the firmware upgrade from linksys.com
Bellsouth FastAccess
NTL (Uk provider) Straight through modem
Wideopenwest (WOW)
Verizon DSL Cisco router, modem find too
Bell/Sympatico High Speed SMC Barricade Router
*Router notes for X-Box - If you want to use a router with your X-Box live connection instead of straight through the modem, the X-Box tech support recomends Dlink routers... but if you have linksys and can't stay connected, you need to go to linksys.com and get the firmware upgrade and then everything will work fine*
Dreamcast

Maplenet dial up (small Oakhurst CA provider)

qwest
Tiscali
FreeServe
Wanadoo
Dreamkey (Oregon area provider)
Blueyonder, AKA Telewest (UK) With a broadband adaptor and a router it works
1&1 internet power (Germany) 0,49 eurocent per minute between 11pm and 9 am. + 5 euro basic per month)
Bell Sympatico "Bell-sympatico is DSL, however because I had no BBA for the Dreamcast, I was forced to just plug the Dreamcast straight into the phone line and completely bypass the DSL modem. Still worked though."
PSO PC

Comcast Cable

Linksys Router or straight through modem
