You can think of a Mag's nature as being like its personality. It affects how the Mag will respond in common gameplay situations. For example, a Mag may cast Resta if your HP goes below 30%. Another example is when the Mag's Photon Blast gauge reaches full charge. Depending on the Mag's nature, your character may receive an offensive buff or short-duration invincibility. The effects you receive in these situations will all depend on the Mag's nature. This guide will provide an overview of how Mag natures work and the types of benefits each one provides.

How Does a Mag Acquire a Nature?

Mag natures fall into four broad categories: Offenseive, Defensive, Recovery, and Special. A Mag does not develop a nature until it reaches Level 10. Before then, its nature is listed as "???". Upon reaching 10, it may receive one of the following four natures: Playful (Offensive), Timid (Defensive), Healing (Recovery), and Hungry (Special). These natures are the least helpful for each of the four categories. When a Mag reaches level 60, it will acquire one of two "advanced" natures from the same category. For example, a "Playful" Mag maybe come a "Ruffian."

Can I switch a Mag's Nature?

After a Mag reachs level 60, it is possible to switch its nature to the second "advanced" for the category by feeding it five consecutive items of a specific type. Aside from this specific circumstance, it is impossible to switch a Mag's nature. Once your Mag's nature becomes known at level 10, it will be locked into one specific broad category.
