• PSOver.2 Pay to Play?

God writes, "Everyone may want to take note of the following image. It's an emblem from the official PSOver.2 U.S. boxart. It simply says: "Credit Card Required for Online Play". Does this mean we will have to Pay to Play PSOver.2? One Sega employee had this response:

"The credit card is for Seganet members. You need a credit card to play online games using Seganet. They shouldn't [have] put that on the case, it's going to confuse people"

    An image of the emblem
Update: IGNDC is reporting that PSOver.2 will in fact be Pay to Play for U.S. Gamers. Although not concrete, and without any price quotes. If it's true expect to pay similair fees as the Japanese release, $10 every 3 months. The full article can be found here. We'll, of course, keep you updated as news breaks.

I predict that PSOv2 will be the lowest selling Sega produced DC title because of this.

F*%k that! I wont pay extra fees just to play ver.2 IT's hard enough having to pay 20 bucks a month for an isp. This may very well decide how well this game does. I for one can say I wont be getting the game if this is what is going to happen.

Lots of us have been playingf PSO for months now. For nearly half that time we've been dreaming of the new possiblities to come in add-ons and sequals to this addicting game. Now, not one of us likes the idea of paying, and continuing to pay for the new features that await. But, I'm sure there a still a number of people out there who will be willing to play anyway.
Sure, many will resist at first. But, the urge to get your hands on that shinny new weapon, or your boredom at being stuck at level 100 will probably over take a good majority of us with time. We might say to ourselves, "oh, I'll just buy v2 and only play off-line". That wont hold us. In fact the temptation will probably be greater. It will be too great a challenge to resist bringing v1 characters over to v2.
Since once that step is taken, you can never go back... it will be out of your hands... you'll give every last cent you have to Sega. That will be it. They will own you. Your soul is their's.
Damn you Sega (The crack dealer of the gaming world).

now that you mention it, i would gladly pay a decent fee for a fun online environment without cruel PKers

i think this will help sega's plan for profit... and that's the main reason, they've been in debt for so long... they gotta make up for it... if they do something like the 10 bux/3 months... its a small step and i'm willing to help them learn how to walk again

that 10 bucks for 3 months would probably be used for server fixes and the like. But still, it's hard enough for those of us that go to games for some "downtime" away from the money problems we have. And usually save up to buy some pretty decent games.

well sega should expect low sales on this game, i was really happy when i heard it was coming but now i will have nothin to do with it, i wont pay to play any game online, cant afford it for one and also when i pay 50$ for a game that should be enough

Jeez this blows. I think this has a lot to do witht he GC version. I'd never thought I'd EVER say this, but Damn you Sega! I've been loyal to the core and Sonic's #1 fan and this is how you repay me? well, I give you a giant "P". A P as in NUTS TO YOU.

Why would they all of the sudden charge us to play version 2 when they didn't for the first one? I think they just see a chance to make more $. PSO was way more succesful they even sega thought it would be. Now that they have everyone "Hooked" they figure they can squeeze a little more cash out of us. If they want to chare us $10 every 3 months that is kinda cheap, they better make the games price bout $20 when it comes out. I know it cost money to up keep the servers but come on!!
      That stinks!

Yeah, it's gonna lower sales, and they'll probably end up with even less money in the tradeoff. Not a wise choice at all.

My question is, are they going to allow me to back up my characters in case of a BSOD? Are they going to have better server connections and broadband support that doesn't require a hack? And are they going to use that $$ for better customer support if your character does go bad, or you switch internet providers? I hear all kinds of horror stories about that... THey could get away w/ those things in America if it's free. Once you start paying $$ for it though, that's a whole new ballpark. And remember, this isn't some "all new" game... Just an upgrade. (Be it a very cool looking one though...)
I'll pay, but I hope to see my $$ put to good use.

Say we do get PSOv.2 and play it offline. And we get the character to over level 100 and get all those nifty weapons. What happens if we want to use that character file to play the first PSO? Will our step into PSOv.2 be the doom of our character playing online with version 1?

... I really don't mind having to pay. I mean really whats the big deal? In japan they have been paying for v1 , so we just got lucky and did not have to. And $10 for 3 months is cheap. Really anyone who is complaining about this should just be happy we are even getting the game. After all Sega didn't have to release it in the states. And for all of you who would say then you would import.. well you would be paying to be online then too. So it's not the best thing but it could be worse.

Wrose. Even if you stay below 100, even if you don't take a single v2 item... it's already too late. If you play v2 at ALL with a character, it can never go back to v1.
