• New Details Revealed on the AOTI "Supplemental Update"

    A new section of the official Japanese Phantasy Star Universe site has opened revealing new details on the previously announced major update coming to the Japanese version of Ambition of the Illuminus. Slated to be released this spring for the Japanese PC/PS2 servers, this update will be in the form of a free-to-download patch. Considering this method of delivery, PC users will receive the full benefit of the patch, however PS2 players will only be able to take advantage of certain aspects of it. Here are some details on what to expect.

    • Over 160 new items will be added in the way of weapons and clothes. We can expect to see many weapons carried over from Phantasy Star Portable.
    • Various balance adjustments will be made to photon arts, GUARDIANS types, races and SUV weapons.
    • Exact counter (just counter) will be modified so that the user is invulnerable while countering an attack.
    • A point system will be implemented to allow characters that have reached the level cap to turn excess EXP into points which can be used to further upgrade their abilities.
    • Common box functions will be further expanded.
    • A lock function will be added to allow players to protect items that are near and dear to them so that they can't accidentally sell them to an NPC vendor.
    • New varieties of missions will be added, such as some which will have restrictions based on (for example) GUARDIANS type.
    • The billing system will be updated to include an optional "PSU Ticket" system. Basically, this will allow players to purchase "PSU Tickets" that can be used to gain access to even more in-game content such as exclusive missions and the ability to modify the element and attribute percent of weapons and line shields.

      Doesn't Segac get enough of our money for inferior service? These things better be like a dollar each.. Cause I swear.. PSUic just isn't worth ADDING to my monthly bill for...

      Yay this is looking really good finally will have something to do when I max out my main chacter!. Just hoping the tickets for changing weapon element and % aren't expensive! Though I must say a PS2/PC update only no 360 is so cool tks Sega! this should surly get people playing on the PS2/PC servers again!

      great, so now PPL who buy thousdans of PSU tickets can have the best equipment in a matter of minutes, instead of actually playing the game and working towards it. :sigh: This will probably end up being a XBL marketplace item if we end up getting it at all.
      Exact counter change is actually BAD for gunners, since you can't just shotty/evade/shotty/evade as much anymore.
      New weps is always good. Hopefully the SUV adjustments add S rank SUV's of the standard set. I'd love to see S rank Grom and Sturm.
      XP into points to trade in? sounds good, but how about new PA's to get? or something to do with the stacks and stacks of PA frags I have, other than trying to make Chainsawd+?

      playstation and pc = dead. (unless on japan servers)

      like whatever whats his name is unless your on japan servers than thats understandable more players but in america the server for pc and ps2 is so barren is like someones toliet at 2 in the morning empty and sad. the xbox has way more players than either the ps2 or pc could ever hope to have.

      The point system sounds like somthing PSU players will actually find useful but overall I am underwhelmed and very dissapointed by this update. I knew that Sega said the new update wouldn't be as big as AOI was but I was expecting more changes to the way PSU was played.

      I already have PC, PS3 & Wii (not to mention PSP and DS). I don't want to have to go buy an Xbox360 just to play PSU with more players. There's plenty of people around White Beast, and whenever there's an event or GBR there's enough people around then, too. But, I do wish there were more players on the PC/PS2 servers...

      Sounds like they're taking a page out of FFXI's merit system. I'd be interested to see what one could "merit" with this system in place. I doubt it would be something as extreme as weapon ranks though. I could see it more along the lines of base stats and PP regen, and maybe even increasing trap limits for classes that use them.
