• Third Anniversary of PSU's North American Release

Today marks the third anniversary of the North American release for Phantasy Star Universe! When the game was first released, the level cap was 50 and players were struggling to earn enough meseta to craft 5-star weapons. With the small mission selection, most players spent their time repeatedly playing Plains Overlord. These were the days when players were willing to pay a premium for Crea weapon boards.

Things have certainly changed quite a bit since then! The first expansion, Ambition of the Illuminus was released two years ago with new job types and items. The current player cap is level 160 and players strive to grind their 12-star weapons to 10/10. The most popular mission for the last two years has been the incomparable White Beast. Numerous S-Rank weapons have become so common that players simply sell them to the NPC vendors rather than let them collect dust in their player shop.

While the game's heyday may be behind it, there is still a lot to look forward to. The upcoming Supplemental Update will rebalance the game and introduce a large number of new items. In addition, players can expect to see Maximum Attack G+, S3 Missions, and the conclusion of the Ambition of the Illuminus storyline. You can share your best memories about Phantasy Star Universe in this topic.

Ah.. Just reading "the conclusion of the Ambition of the Illuminus storyline" made me cry alittle inside. I wonder if they will make a new expansion.. or better still a whole new MMO PS for the bigger consoles; ps2, xbox360 & pc.

Hard to believe it's been three years. I still remember those first days of grinding the same liner line mission just trying to get enough experience to move on to the next mission. Wondering if I was ever going to get enough mission points to upgrade my licence and reaching lv 25 still using my original c rank equipment, not able to afford anything better. Ah those were good times

The good old days indeed I think the posting sums up my memories pretty good but its still funny today that I can't afford much well the best stuff anyways, as my luck has and allways will suck! other than that I rember spending days on end hunting a polymer aurora during the Fire brake event still the best event in my opinion! Just so sad to say that the slow but steady updates compared to other mmos who get expansions every so often, and hacking has almost killed off PSU entirely, such a grate game!! best memorie off all for me was when, back in the day you could go just about anywhere in PSU and find a party to mission in over and over and make new friends! Back then universe 1 and 2 were allways maxed out and at least 1 star in most every other universe aaa the good ol days!!

i remember going to wal-mart getting PSU on day one. Firebreak was probably my favorite event. dang, 3 yrs...Seabed and Crimson Beast were the hotspots....a time when i thought a Halarod was like, whoa!!! where'd you find that you lucky bastard. when searching in players' shops you had to go to each persons room that had a particular item for the lowest price you could find. you couldn't specify price, star level, prices etc....if you died in a party all party members rank would go down...i still enjoy it for what it is and i will probably linger around til the servers go down.

Sega could revive this game if they wanted to instead of putting millions of dollars in PSP game they could have added another three planets and creat new missions look at WOW it is still going stron today and has millions of people playing.Sega add another upgrade and have a huge PVP planet call it Gothovus and advertize you could revive this game come on you can do it...

This game was strong when it first came out. I remember enjoying the good ol' days when I had to do some serious grinding for B rank weapons, Plains Overlord was where it was at, and there were more diverse missions that weren't game breaking in terms of rewards. I have quit this game for over a year now and I'm glad I did considering how it turned out. I left for one main reason, enjoy doing White Beast for another 2 years guys.

lol, the memorys... back in the early days of me playing this game I didn`t know about pso-world so most things in the game i had to find out for myself, and as im sure you can all imagine when the expansion came out it did take me 2 days to figure out why some peoples names became gold
in all fairness my bestest memorys of the early days were from playing the demo, lots of my friends came along and we always had a party of six, the way the full game ended up for us was all of us soloing certain missions seperately only joining forces for things like hsm and events.
there isn`t much about this game i would change if i could out of hindsight, 1 thing would without doubt be the way items are dealt out to players and the limited storage has been a pain in my backside from the start!
Would be nice to see more added to the game, i will be there at the end whenever that is

ahh... i remember back in the day when i fought maggas magahanah ( spelling is def wrong) for the first time with a few of my friends and at the time scape dolls were pretty scarce to come by or were at least for me and i had a single scape doll and even though it doesn't sound like a good idea i fought maggas with a single scape doll and about halfway through the fight i got stunned by him and i remember screaming so loud telling my friends to help me because i didn't want to lose my ever so precious scape doll. Then i sat stunned as my friends just ran in circles as maggas pulled out his oversized sword and steamed full speed ahead right into me and killed me instantly and there was nothing i could do.... After that i screamed for about half an hour about how they owed me a scape doll and that it was total bs that i died and that this game was way to hard to get money and whatever else i could ramble off... those were the days that i think of to get me to still play this game and even though that one memory wasn't the best it was what made this game so great i really hope sega pulls it together to take this game to a new level and make it as good as what it used to be, and makes it one hell of a memorable MMO Congrats so far sega keep it up!!!

sadly that what everyone is doing white beat, casino and span like crazy on the 4th floor.I remember two years back most of the psu player spend most of there days at the underground water lab.And Know no one want do activity like PA runs, buff party, Bot machine outfit contest anymore of the fact they think they have a better chance of GETTING rare free mission passes at white beast. Something I wish that sega should never had done it or add it from the start. This way we can still do more activity in depth gaming.

My favorite memory was that from day one we were re-running the same mission 10-15 times a day, for 2-3 weeks straight until a new update came out so that we could go to another area and do the exact same thing in the hopes of obtaining that one little trickle of content that Sega gave us in the form of a new weapon that would be worthless in less than a month.
Even better than that was every time I hit the level cap and just ground my head against the glass ceiling of the max level for weeks on end until we'd get a measly update that would increase it by 10 levels, then hitting the cap weeks before the next update and doing it all over again.
And the reskins! Gosh how I loved fighting the same 3 bosses with different textures the entire time I played the game. Never had to worry about any surprises or anything like that, you know exactly what you were getting the second you stepped into a new boss arena. Is it gonna be the GIANT ROBOT or the GIANT DRAGON? Oh the tension!
But by far, the best was being a ranger. Pushing the exact same button over and over and over and over for hours on end while the other players got to mix things up with techniques and photon art special attacks was the best! Once in awhile I would pop a photon charge to refill my ammo and that would be the highlight of my mission. The rest of the time I let the monotonous tapping and strafing left to right lull me into a comatose state of death/boredom.
      Good times!
