• PSO2 Western Release Delayed - Officially Confirmed by SEGA

The Western release of Phantasy Star Online 2, previously announced in July of last year, has been confirmed by SEGA to be officially delayed. Originally slated for an "early 2013" release in North America, PSO2 failed to make an appearance at this year's event at PAX East and there have been no official updates on its release until now.

"We don't have any specifics, but will update everyone as soon as there are more details to share," said a SEGA representative when asked about the delay.

The Japanese release of PSO2 continues to perform well, with the game recently launching on the Playstation Vita platform. As of February, there had reportedly been over 1.7 million player IDs registered for the service.

We will attempt to get further information on this delay and will post more details as they become available. In the meantime, be sure to check the PSO2 forums for the latest buzz and discussions surrounding Phantasy Star Online 2!

Absolutely no mention of this game at E3 is a very very very bad sign. If they choose to not hype the game on world's biggest stage, then that means they have nothing to show. Nothing to even announce or update. They have... nothing. I think we can declare the time of death for Western PSO2 at the exact time E3 2013 closed its doors.

I agree its pretty ridiculous. Normally it only takes a year to release a game internationally from its native launch date. Its nearly been a year and we haven't heard ANYTHING about what's going on over there other than the obvious update of being delayed. Sega promised to not screw over the internationals again after PSU and other PS titles and what'd they do? Yea. Great. Honestly this game is vaporware. By the time it decides it finally wants to release there will be other MMOs out like TESO, Wildstar, Star Citizen, HEX and plenty others taking their share of the MMO market which is quite limited. All in all this is just depressing to even think about anymore.

I like your way of thinking. This is why I just went to stick to the JP version. I'm not going to wait and suffer for the english version, so I'm going to appreciate the version I can play.
I might consider a Vita JUST for that.

Lets just call it canceled by now. Another failure by Sonic Team.

next gen gaming is still 6 mo away and looking at the bigger picture than just pc only release, it could be wise for them to keep it quiet rather and wait til the right timing to port over. good things come for those who wait.. mostly.

Not Sonic Team. Sega of America. They could at least give us more details, but they're refusing to. Probably because they know it's fucked and they don't want an internet riot about it.

My guess is they are not saying anything so they don't make anything worse. They could tell us if it is coming out this year mind as well get the JP version

Don't be a downer. Unless they say otherwise, we are getting this.

Look at all the **ks I give. Again, unless Sega says otherwise, we're getting this. Everyone I'd advise to listen to official statements ONLY. Don't give into rumors.

With this long of a delay with no word whatsoever, it's a good guess that they've canceled it and just don't feel like telling us. That's it. Phantasy Star (over here in the West, at least) is dead. Sega never learns from their mistakes, never look to what they did right, and they clearly don't care about anyone outside of Japan.
I've moved on. I'm not playing that JP version. I'm not going to support a crap company that doesn't give back. Anyone else with some sense should do the same. Don't enable them anymore. Let them rot, as they should.

Even if it comes to america i couldn't stop JP-PSO2 because theres that whole id have to restart my virtual self again lol.
Most of my friends from Universe and PSP2 are on ship02 so theres that. And the English patches let me read what i want.
The Game is Free - AC items are bought from player stores for pennies. If you dont have access to webmoney thats fine. Everyone i know just uses Meseta.
An american release wouldn't bring the fantastic famous japanese anime seiyuu that i know and hold dear =(
I bet a lot of japanese exclusive items, clothing, weapons, and promotions wouldn't make it to america.
I'm not missing out on anything by playing JP. Id probably not play a watered down western version.

Ok, it's been 5 months since the announcement with not one word. If no news surfaces in the next month or two then consider it canceled. Thanks for the let down again Sonic Team.

Was looking forward to this but as usual sega fail to deliver. Beginning to feel that the rest of the world outside Japan doesn't matter. Oh well looks like i'm sticking with borderlands 2

"We all know how much the JP players hate the flood of -racial slur redacted- already. If Sega JP OFFICIALLY approved of outsiders... the JP fan backlash would be brutal. Sega JP is more than satisfied with PSO2's profits, and has no interest risking that just so Sega US/EU can get a piece of the pie."
That's really more than enough of a good reason to not agree.
"They will offer Ships designated for the new regions so that the JP players won't cry about all the -racial slur redacted-, but Sega JP will quietly NOT actually force us to use these specific ships."
      1. Is this something Sega America actually said they do?
      2. Is it not possible that the japanese players would still be mad because us "-racial slur redacted-" would still be able to play on the Japanese servers? Especially because there are more than a few americans who play video games that would likely do so just to p--s them off.

Agreed. Capcom doesn't. Capcom cares almost as little as EA does about the people who play their games.

By that logic, it had better come to Wii U.
