• Phantasy Star Online ... for Gamecube?

Cube writes, ""The real deal." Sources close to Sega Europe have indicated that Sonic Team's incredible online RPG is to be announced by Sega for Gamecube next week! "

This article is more news from the rumor mill. PSOW staff members Mistkerl Zwo and myself will be attending E3, so expect updates and pictures regarding all things PSO (v2 and more..) on a regular basis during E3 time.

According to insiders a game "similar" to Phantasy Star Online is to be revealed for Gamecube at E3 next week. Two sources have confirmed today that several Gamecube games will be shown at the expo. Sega is to show at least 10 title behind closed doors on the Sega stand, including Xbox, PlayStation 2 and Game Boy Advance product. Rumours have been circulating for some time that Sega and Nintendo were collaborating on an online RPG playable across both Dreamcast and Gamecube. Early indications point to something slightly different, possibly even a completely exclusive PSO title for the Nintendo machine, not Phantasy Star Online 2 as previously thought. Naka-san, the head of the legendary development team behind the Dreamcast classic, is known to be fully discussing the second instalment on the Sega console. Sega is holding a press conference at E3, and I will be there to give PSOW the low-down. Looks like big news is going to be announced!!!!!!!

If you think about it, this rumor could be true. For 1, sega anonced pso2 would not be on a sega platform, and 2, sonic team is developing for the dreamcast, gameboy advance, and gamecube. Sega already said pso2 will not be on dreamcast so gamecube seems more logical than gameboy advance.

I've been around since the pre-NES days and have found that the majority who yell out "Such and such sytem sux!" are the ones who can't afford ALL the systems. I've had the pleasure of owning ALL the systems to date and each system has its strengths and its weaknesses. So, "GROW UP!" (then again, some of you never will). You know, if these same people bought cars, I bet the ones who buy Lamboughinis will yell out "Ferraris suck!"

I think that rumor is correct because 1)sega anounced that pso2 would not be on a sega system 2)sonic team is developing for dreamcast, gameboy, and gamecube. Of the gamecube and gameboy, the gamecube seems like the most logical decision.

Wow "why ruin Pso's good name by putting it on the GCN"? thats right leave it on the DC the near dead system, sure. Yuji Naka himself said he loved the gamecube when he first saw it a nintendo spaceworld, it was inevitable, would you folks rather see it on the playstation? nintenedo and sega shared the same vision even as rivals they are the best of the gaming world you guys should count your lucky stars it didn't end up in sonys hands or *shudder* microcrap.

Hmph, I own just about all the system, but I still hate Sony =P
I loved my lil Saturn, but Sony killed that system off with the huge amount of games... 90% of which really sucked...
What Sega should do is make a PS2 smashing contest! Contestants get these heavy rubber mallets, whoever smashes the most in 1 minute wins a copy of PSO2 before it's supposed to be out... =D
Oh man, I'd love that ^_^

The PSO will be better on PS2 or Xbox even though nintendo and sega are truly a game company. On the gamecube I bet the game will be very slow and have super sucky graphics

What I wanna know is why you think that. as far as I can tell the GC has pretty fine graphics and I don't see how it could be "slow".

pso2 would be best on the g-cube. the hardcore system and game for the hardcore gamer. u know all u guys r hardcore gamerz or else u wouldn't know what the hell pso is. nintendo and sega are the ogs of video games. who said that the game would look slow and ugly on the g-cube? u gotta be one stupid mofo to even think that. the g-cube is well planned and built. even yuji naka liked it, the same damn guy who brought u this game. u better not crack on what he thinks is best for the damn series. so shut your damn mouths and let him do what he needs to do to keep the damn series runnin! personally, the most LOGICAL and STRATEGIC-notice those two words- thing to do is make a version for ps2. maybe it wouldn't be good but its pretty damn popular which is better for Sonic Team. what if microsoft bought the letter "L" forcing sony to change the system name to "Paystation"? i don't know what the hell i was thinkin. just popped into my head as i was typing.

Well since the Playstation 2 has no damn modem, and broadband is like expensive as heck right now, I hope it comes out for the GameCube. It already has been known for a long time that Nintendo and Sega were working on a top secret RPG together, why not PSO2?! If Gamecube has the same networking choices that the Dreamcast had; modem, and broadband I am all for it. Every system has its strengths and faults, the one who is the "winner" has the best games!

Actually, what IGN said was that Sonic Team would be developing for GC for now. They did NOT say that it would be exclusive. There is still a very real possibility that Sonic Team may develop for other consoles. Let's keep the facts straight, shall we?

Okay, that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.
1.So Phantasy Star started on Sega machines. SO WHAT!! For example: Didn't Final Fantasy start on Nintendo machines, then move to the PSX? Didn't the series get more exposure AFTER the move to PSX?
2.What maintenance are you talking about? Sega has done tons of maintenance to the servers without there being a *huge* hit to playing time. Nintendo could do the same exact thing. Heck, the smart thing to do would be to just use Seganet. It's already up & running.
3.Umm, okay. Obviously you've never played Diablo, Ultima Online, Everquest, etc. Sega doesn't own the "patent" for "cool" online RPGs. Sheesh.
4.Okay here's where your bias really comes through. As much as I've disliked many of their business practices, Nintendo is a force to be reckoned with in the industry. Heck, PSO's battle system would have been greatly improved if Sega had utilized the lock-on targeting system employed in Zelda:Ocarina of Time. Nintendo single-handedly revitalized the game industry in the 80's & have several well-known franchises. If it weren't for the popularity of characters like Mario, Zelda or Samus Aran, there'd be no Sonic, Rayman or Crash Bandicoot. Nintendo may not be my favorite company in the industry, but at least I give them their credit when it's deserved.

Hello, folks i would like to say a few logical things then I'm off. 1st of all I've been playing games for years as in like 16 years. Nintendo and Sega are both the only true platform game systems out there . Now I'm not going to start bashing all the other systems out there but if you are a die hard gamer and I know you guys and ladies , HeHe, are remember this Sega brought you the Dreamcast and brought u the Pso to beginne with so why not trust their judgement in their hands. And be glad that the 2 are making games togehter FINNALY how many times have u spent in your living room playing games thinking man i wish we could have Sonic on nintendo or even Phantisy Star I kno for sure Nintendo heads were wishing it so lets rejoice and TELL SEGA TO BRINGEM ON WE ARE READY!!

Umm, excuse me? Sega made great hardware? Okay, let's see here:
      1.Sega CD
      2.Sega 32X
      3.Sega Saturn
All of these platforms are recognized throughout the industry as failures. Despite the fact that Sega hyped up to be the best things going, they never lived up to their so-called potential & were, in the face of other machines, very mediocre. What other company has had a string of hardware failures as extensive as Sega?
No, Sega's strong point has ALWAYS been software, not hardware. Even Sega has stated this several times throughout it's history. I, for one, am glad that they will be concentrating totally on software, leaving the hardware to other, more capable companies. Although the DC is a nice piece of hardware, it pales in comparison to PS2, GC or XBox. Their move to hardware was done at the right time & for all the right reasons.

Here we go with more bias. Cronical, you are obviously forgetting your game history.
In the days of the SNES & Genesis, both of these systems had so much unbelievably mediocre crap on them, that many industry insiders feared another videogame crash was imminent. Anybody remember games likes Pushover on SNES? Didn't think so. Or how about the abysmally poor software on the 32X (besides Doom)? Yep, that's how horrible a lot of their dreck was, dreck that both Nintendo & Sega were more than happy to put on their respective systems. Yet, who came along & boosted the industry? Gee, it was Sony wasn't it? With their PSX, no less. Sony not only raised the industry out of it's slump but it also raised the quality bar of the existing genres (games like WipeOut), while introducing whole new genres at the same time (Twisted Metal). Heck, the PSX threatened & frightened Sega so badly, they released the Saturn almost a full six months earlier than they had originally planned. Even Nintendo, who's previous ad campaign stated, "Who needs a new system?", very quickly switched gears as they watched PSX succeed with innovative, fun software. Then, all of a sudden, they announced their N64 system with the ad campaign, "Change the system." Pretty shaky behavior, if you ask me.
ALL video game companies are out to do one thing & one thing only: MAKE MONEY. This includes Nintendo & Sega. So before anyone goes spouting off about how Nintendo & Sega are the only "true" game companies that care about their customers, check your history. You'll find that a lot of your gripes about the PS2 & XBox have precedents that were already set by Nintendo & Sega.
In the final analysis, the games are what matters. Not the companies or the systems. So rather than bash other companies & systems because of our own short-sighted biases, let's be just a little objective here, okay?
