• New Lobby and Pioneer 2 designs for Episode I & II

omega3059 writes, "According to IGN, and 11 screenshots found only on their site, PSO for Gamecube will feature a new looks for the Lobby and Pioneer 2. The upgraded look will feature more detailed and "colorful" areas, and instead of all the shops and places cramped into small rooms, they will now be spread out over a larger distance... Lastly, instead of identical lobbies on the DC games, the GCN lobbies will feature multiple styles depending on what ship you choose.

Ya, I think they should keep the old design along with the new one for more variety...

I don't know about anybody else, but one of my biggest complaints since the first time I ever played this game was that this game is supposed to take place on a huge spaceship (whenever you're not killing things), and yet you're limited to an area no bigger than two city blocks. Saying that each hunter is limited to their own section ID's portion of the ship might make sense, but section ID had no effect on the appearance of the Pioneer 2 setting.

And the lobbies... to me they don't even look like "lobbies." No place to sit, no little corners to duck into, no options besides talking, leaving, and starting games, and what's more, every lobby looks the same. Well, aside from color, and perhaps Go-Go Ball... whoop de doo.

IMO, PSO has lacked a sense of location since the beginning. It'd be nice if there was actually some point in talking to NPCs outside of offline quests, or if there was a city to explore, or even if they'd just animated actual teleporters for changing ships. Heck... what ARE the ships in the first place? Ganymede, Titan, Europa? Do they circle around Pioneer 2? And if so, why are they apparently bigger than P2?

Heh... I know its just a game, but there's no suspension of disbelief at all. No wonder almost no one role-plays.
