• Phantasy Star Online Episode III: C.A.R.D. Revolution Announced

    TerribleDeliMeat writes, "Sega has released their list for the 2003 E3. Among the title is Phantasy Star Online Ep. III. Following the trend of card games recently, Sonic Team has opted to make it a card based game.

    "Phantasy Star Online Episode III: C.A.R.D. Revolution" (Nintendo GameCube): "Phantasy Star Online Episode III: C.A.R.D. Revolution" expands the "Phantasy Star Online" (PSO) universe, offering a new style of strategic combat. Combining the excitement of card collection and deck settings with team-based battle tactics, PSO Episode III allows users to chat in the lobby about status upgrades and tactics, and then journey to the planet surface to engage in strategic combat using a turn-based Card system.

    The game continues the story arc of the previous PSO games, as players once again become Hunters and explore the mysteries of the planet Ragol. Featuring both online and offline play, as well as multiplayer modes, PSO Episode III adds new content and players to the ever-growing PSO community.     "

      Graphics look nice, but the idea sounds rubbish to me... If I wanted to play card games.. I wouldnt be playing PSO... sheeesh.

      PS has always been RPG's... and this sort of thing should be a side project.. not an integral part of the story since I'll find it very painful to play just to make sure I'm up to speed on all things Phantasy Star.

      By the Fates! A REAL new PSO. Sounds strange, but I'm game to try it. Any idea what platform it'll be on? There better be a GC version.

      They're titling this Episode 3? Seems like SonicTeam keeps going farther and farther down the crapper. I played Yu-Gi-Oh, which is supposed to be one of the best card game video games and boy that was boring. So what 's next a brand new game where you have to catch Ragol's monsters in a little ball? (Pokemon). It's not going to work... what a joke.

      Game looks interesting. I've liked most video game collectable card games (except Yu-Gi-Oh), so I can't wait for this one.

      Episode III is a fething card game. Can't say I'm too surprised. How long are they gonna drag this franchise out until they make a real sequel?

      Interesting concept... Maybe a way to limit the overuse of super-special methods like in Evolution or FF?...

      Personally, I'd rather have a true sequel with the good ol' hack-&-slash we're all so addicted too, but I might just want to give EpIII a try just for curiosity's sake.

      No fecking way. The graphics in this 'sequel' may look great, but if it's nothing than some turn-based card game, count me out. If I wanted turn-based combat, I'll play some OFFline RPGs instead thank you.

      How is this change supposed to work out when the PSO series was said to be an Action-RPG in the first place?

      i just want to comment there are more CCG than pokemon and yu-gi-oh those are just card games for younger kids i dont know if you noticed but there millions of magic players and thousands of dragonball z players and many other card games I'm guessing it will be on GC Xbox and ps2 if it gets more of a standered internet and i dont know if you guys every played a game called card fighters for neo geo but that game was on of the best rpg games very addicting if this should turn out to be a plus.

      I just want to comment on how you managed to say all that in two sentences.

      Punctuation is your friend. Don't fear it. Embrace him.

      Episode III looks like it could either be very good, or pretty terrible. It's hard to judge so soon, though. Either way, it just isn't in alignment with the rest of the series... it seems very off. But I'm willing to give it a try.

      Interesting concept, although I must say card games really arent my bag, and I must REALLY say that I HATE HATE HATE turn based fighters....

      But, I have faith that ST will create another addictive masterpiece...because no matter what new areas they explore...I'll follow.

      ugh, i really dont see how this could appeal to the mainstream, its a bad concept on so many levels, i mean, it would have been fine if it was just a side project for them but making it pso 3? what are they thinking, yes the series needed a breath of fresh air but most people were thinking maybe special attacks, and this means its prolly gonna take forever for them to give us a good ol' regular pso game, plus imagine how much the n00bs and jackasses will screw this game up even more than pso already

      this game really makes me go "hmm"

      On the good side, it is something new... I'm not to fond of many card games because they are based off of something else that is crappy... although this is based off one of my fav. games ever... so you never know.

      On the downside, we were all looking forward to an expansion for our characters to rip through, new bosses more enemies ect. but maybe one day we will see a TRUE episode three for PSO.

      either way, I know I will pick up this game.
