• Sega's PSO EP 3 Wesbite Up

psosaladwood writes, "Sega's PSO EP 3 website is up and available in both Japanese and English versions here. The Japanese version has a little bit more information compared to the English one.

Release dates for the game are as follows for Nintendo Gamecube:
    JP: 4th Quarter 2003
    North America: 1st Quarter 2004
    Europe: 1st Quarter 2004

You can read more at the website.

    Update:
Sega also released their own PSO E3 EP 3 webpage. They reiterate that GC EP 1 & 2 will have access to the same visual lobbies of GC Ep 3 because Ep 3 will have similar Ep 1 & 2 visual lobby setup. Meaning: players of the two different games will be able to idle, converse and meet in the same visual lobby. Players on Ep 3 will still be able to hang out and chat with their old buddies on Ep 1 & 2.

There is also the E3 2003 exhibition promotion movie on the site.

So...what happens when you port your character over to PSOIII? All of your items turn into cards?...uh, heh that sounds too true.

      Hmm...Q1 2004? I know what I want for my 17th birthday! lol.

Hmm...be a hunter or an ark? I'd be an Ark with a mech deck...that'd be cool.

This looks like a game of chess, only you as the king and you summon your pawns. crazie shyit.

Haven't you people learned to never trust anything on an official Sega website? Especially when it's about PSO?

Well, looks interesting. As a staunch PSO fan I will be buying this anyway, just cause I trust sonicteam's sense of design.

However, like all of you, I am a little worried about this seemingly radical change.

I have 2 hopes about this game :

      1. That you can chat with players just in exactly the same way that you did on dreamcast and do on ep.I & II

      2. That the magic spells aren't cards that are used up when u use each spell a'la final fantasy 8. How much did that suck compared to the perfect fighting system of ff7? Sometimes change for its own sake is not so good for an established game.

      We shall see...

Leave it to ST to mess up a good thing.

      This is gonna stink... their turnin' it into Yu-Gi-Oh... Though this is beginning to look alot like the past Phantasy Star games in the sense that the 3rd of the series is the odd-game out for not being like the other ones. If my theory is correct, Episode IV ought to really kick butt. ^_^;

      2 questions

will there b an additional charge along with ep1&2

will cards b reusable or will they disappear like in lost kingdoms(i assume they keep reusing but u never know with sega)

Darryl (Tiny D) Cook, I'll kick your 'you know what' for dissing FF8's fighting system, it was original and required a lot more tactical thinking... lol... but i do agree that there are concerns over this radical change of direction.

Initially I was excited over a seemingly turned based system as this would allow people to shine (or be exposed) for their battle tactics... However when i found out that it would be like a card game, then... ergh... it just reaks of "major flop coming through".

If they are so keen to reinvent PSO then how about this for an idea... STOP DESIGNING REPETITVE LEVELS AND BORING US STUPID... ala Caves, Ruins, Sea Bed, Temple, Space Ship...

Someone asked me recently "why do people like forest so much?" and I replied, "because its original and diverse" (same applied for Jungle, mountain and seaside)

Card game gimmicks I hope will end with Yu-Gi-Oh... original planning is the way forward for me, is that too much to ask for???

Well, this game I had hope for, until I went to E3. I was all in anticipation that it would actually be a good and fun card battling system, but atlas, it's far from it.

I personally think this game moves too slow for my tastes. When I was filming video for my own website on there I couldn't believe how little action I caught because of the time it takes and all.

I'll also be first to say that the screenshots they show must be touched up, on a better tv, or both. Because playing the game simply didn't give me that "awe" as when I first saw a screen shot. Just, I guess was hoping for some with more substance, not a simple fad. Unfortunately lost out on that one.

I can mention that choosing between the Arks and the Heros is pretty fun. I actually chose the Arks. Can't say I tried other side, as I only played it once, and I had to force myself to finish playing.

Sega makes it sound so good on the web site. *sigh* I'm afraid people are going to get suckered into it and really be displeased with it.

I wanna find that movie though on here to see how mucha ction they caught. Can't be much unless you have bits and pieces scattered or long recording time. ;x

I agree with you on this one...when Sonic Team made PSO it was a step forward into a decent online RPG, repetative, mind you, but decent. Granted one can only do so much with a console based game, but I'm not complaining, I'm an addict. I took a good look at PSO EP 3 and I couldn't believe what i was looking at, turn based gameplay style, like classic Phantasy Star. Cool! ...but...cards? I don't know if I would consider this backpedaling from the innovations of PSO, or latteral movement into a different field altogether, but I'm not happy with what I see. I think it's not going to be all that great. Anyways, only time will tell...
