I haven't gotten it yet, but I hope it's not as bad as the other site I've went to. I've seen a 80% chance of those sites popping up once. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif

Aye. This is one rare spawn I think we can all agree that we'd never want to see. x_X

Just got one as I moved this... This type of ad is on most Gamespy/IGN network sites. However, we haven't had it in quite some time and it shouldn't be appearing now. Might just be a fluke that is temporarily affecting the site. I'll look into it http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

Oh ok. And sorry for the wrong section. I wasn't thinking straight because of my Bruce's Dungeon experiences so far.

I haven't gotten this ad since, well, never on PSOW 'til now.

We are working with Gamespy on this issue right now, but we may see the ads around for a little while until we figure out some things. They are technically required by the network, but have not been active on PSOW for some time. The ads are what make it possible to have dedicated hosting with unlimited bandwidth and resources, a luxury that would otherwise be expensive. However, we are against intrusive advertisements such as the ones that have started displaying. The frequency is being reduced, so if you do happen to encounter the ads, it shouldn't be often. If they do become overly bothersome to anyone, it does appear that certain browsers / plugins may alleviate the issue until we come up with a more permanent solution. Sorry for any inconvenience and thanks for the reports!

Also, if anyone experiences instances where the ads are displaying very frequently, or interfering with the functionality of the site or forums, please document it as best as possible at let us know.

YES I've got these ads way too many times! Is there something the mods can do about it?

We're not particularly happy about the situation either. We definitely don't want intrusive advertisements like this on the site. It is a huge inconvience for everyone. However, it would not be in the site's best interests to take any steps that would disable the ads. We would be in violation of our hosting agreement.

If you could give us some feedback on the average number you are saying per unit of time, that would be extremely useful right now.

okay, I'll keep track for a week

I got it about 5 times today. Random times, probably 20 minutes total in viewing the site today.

Some sites make it so you can browse without those ads if you're a registered member, doubt that can be implemented here though.

Over the course of the day:
169 threads viewed/refreshed
8 appearances, once twice in a row (click continue, get an ad)

22 forums entered/refreshed
2 appearances

When I got home, I then checked
18 threads
1 appearance

6 forums
4 appearances, 3 being literally in a row (click continue, get an ad)

I'd venture to say that we're floating at about a 5% appearance rate for any kind of forum views, with an allowance for variation. The 3 times in a row was a fluke, but I'm of the opinion that something should NEVER reappear after it's been told to go away.

Yeah, I got it 3 times in a row as well today, using Safari, with a total of around 30 ads in 90 minutes of browsing. Haven't seen an ad yet while using Firefox.

They are getting more frequent for me. got it about 4 times in a row just a minute ago.

Could anyone who is getting the ads consecutively post a screenshot of their browser's history (the one you can view when right clicking the back button)? This kind of ad behavior is definitely not supposed to occur and I would like to get them turned off immediately if this is in fact happening. However, I need something to back up the report. Thanks!

I've never seen any of these adverts in the whole time I've been on this forum. How come everyone else has, but I haven't?
You watch. It'l appear as soon as I finish typing this post.

I'd laugh my ass off if they get a Stitial when they go to look at the image.

I'm not sure if it'll do that, but I'm off to the Fan Art Gallery to find out.

The stitials (full page ads) are now disabled. Thanks for the input everyone! We're discussing some alternative solutions with Gamespy and should hopefully work something out that eliminates those types of ads permanently.

yeah it was

HUnewearl_Meira

That was a Maintenance page. From time to time, GameSpy, our host, will decide they need to switch something around somewhere, and PSO-World will be inaccessible until they're done. This generally only takes a few minutes, and is not necessarily an indication of a problem, nor is it something that we can change, short of shelling out a great deal of money to buy GameSpy (which is not likely to happen in the foreseeable future).

I can second that. Got it at work on Friday, only I didn't manage to get a screen of it. Not a stital, but just as annoying.
