ok so whats the basic stats of all these weapons
crossbow
handgun
mech gun

I collectively call them 'mid-range'. They are shorter than the 2 long-range that I know: Bow & Rifle.

Gun range increases slightly when you hit 11 and 21 in the equipped PA by the way.

Handgun has a respectable range of 15.9-16.7 units
Crossbow is 13.4-14.2 (although kinda weird since it shoots at angles)
Machinegun has a range of 10.2-11.2.

Handgun gets great elemental bonuses, high base and PA accuracy and attack modifiers, and has a fairly fast rate of fire and up to SE3 if you can use lv30 bullets
Crossbow gets scummy elemental bonuses, has slightly higher base attack and accuracy than handgun and can shoot up to 3 bullets with up to SE3, but has a lower PA attack/accuracy modifier (from 160-165 down to 140-145% Thanks for nerfing xbow ST >_<)
Machinegun now has a great elemental bonus (up to 20%), but has low low base attack and accuracy with only max SE1, but a fast rate of fire (almost 2 hits a second?). The PA attack modifier is a lower but it has a fairly high accuracy mod.

For comparison, Rifle has a range of 25.2-26.6.

In general, your gun's attack will be eclipsed by your character's base ATP, since they are summed together when considering damage. Unless you're like, a neuman, there are lot of factors to consider when choosing a gun other than its base attack.
