You're not 4chan. You're not /b/. Spewing "no u" and other memes isn't even remotely funny anymore, especially when they're out of context*. There's simply no more lulz.

You're not Anonymous, stop shitting up my internet. Get out, go away. Or to put it in a language you're familiar with, GB2/4CHAN/. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif

Keep /b/ in /b/. Dicks like you are why /b/ isn't funny anymore. Also, in before AIDS, pools, gtfo, cats, and desu.

*see FKL

Besides, anything beats having a bunch of PSU rants >>

This rant ="The internet was funny back in 2005. Now my sense of humor doesn't agree with what people today find funny."

I coulda just posted "no u" and got a little laugh out of myself...but I went the extra mile. :3

Umkel really. If you don't like whats being posted, just...don't post, make your own funnies, AND/OR find a better community.
Hell, make your own forum, and invite all your golden days friends over and make it a party! http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_clown.gif

Also: you broke rule #1. Don't mention 4chan or /b/, ever.
Rule #2: It needs more desu, no exceptions.

Most ammusing tingle.

but yeah... memes are funny every ONCE IN A WHILE. Extreme overuse of them results in annoying little in-jokes that you're desperately trying to be apart of. Quit posing ya buncha jokers.

Overused in-jokes is the basis of FKL. Even back in the "golden days" thats what you guys did.
This rant is just uncle bob whining about his beloved FKL culture being ruined by a bunch of noobs whos join dates are <2005.

Diff'rent strokes (or "funnies") for diff'rent folks. The Dizzmeister makes good points, I must say, but so does Uncle Curmudgeon.
Humor requires a shared context, hence the repetition of certain motifs. That's why so many jokes just don't translate between cultures. Online "cultures", from what I've observed, tend to be both limited in depth and breadth and rapidly changeable.
So, what I'm trying to say is... well, I don't entirely know, but it's a combination of several things:
-If you don't find a particular online atmosphere/culture/whatever funny anymore, you can leave, try to change it, or try to ignore it. But you're not superior.
-It's possible to take the inside joke/shared cultural reference thing to extremes. Humor also demands innovation--or at least putting a new twist on old ideas.
-So-called high brow and low brow humor/entertainment/etc are both valuable and necessary.
-Nostalgia is a powerful thing. People naturally, I think, glamourize the past, especially a past with which they identify.
-If all else fails, there's always laughing at the ridiculousness of failed attempts at humor. It's something.
-I think I should be doing homework right now.

At least the jokes back in these "golden days" were a bit more original to FKL than "ohay guyz I saw this joke at 4chan/SA/YTMND/INTERNEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET.

and this is where umkel's rage comes from. In other words, FKL has lost the identity it once had to him yes. Because, even though overused in-jokes have always been the basis of FKL, at least they were our OWN in-jokes. DTPA vs. A-DTPA? FKL exclusive. Abdur's Law? FKL exclusive. So many other jokes, all FKL exclusive.

It's not to say that FKL doesn't have any exclusives nowadays, it's just that they tend to not have as much concious thought put behind them. This SPAM does not taste sweet. I'll pass, thank you.

It's pretty much as simple as that. It's not just 'Grandpa Rage'. Now if you'll excuse us, We have to go hop in the umkel mobile and make it across the road to get to the next level. But beware, there are cars crossing our path from both sides! Will we make it out alive?

Tune in next week. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

The thing is, the jokes and staples of the 'old times' of the spam board here would be just as unfunny anywhere else as other sites' jokes and staples are here.

The problem is not whether something is actually funny or not, but the whole sense of an 'inappropriate' context and use. Golden days FKL isn't funnier or superior to /b/, nor necessarily the other way around.

And I still stand by the point that some things just don't have golden ages, because it's all the perspective of individuals and their experiences. Guess what, anyone's golden age of humor was still seen as retarded humor or dishumor in its context, and this humor that you see as being retarded now will be someone else's Golden Age that they can come back and complain about three years later.

At least the whining isn't about PSU. That's refreshing.

Things always change and the memories are always better than the reality. I think uncle bob is realizing that, after a fashion. Right now he's just cranky. Old people are allowed to be cranky. Let him get it out of his sytem and things will be back to ok, whatever that is.

I don't visit /b/, so most of the memes are fresh to me.

But, seriously, Off Topic is a lot better than 4chan (maybe because the people on Off Topic aren't as creepy/weird).

Then again, I haven't been to that site in ages either.

But, yeah, I declare all points equally invalid. Including mine.

It's not so much FKL that I'm talking about. It's the entire fucking internet now. Everywhere I go it's just "LOL MEMEMEMEMEME". Shit, you can't even go to Fanworks on this place without 4chan memes being spammed. It's sad.

So you were hip before the internet decided to pretend to be hip by copying you and your ilk. Stop complaining and enjoy being a tend-setter, you edgy, trend-setter you! Enjoy the glow and bask, bask away in the glory!

I believe Umkel is being serious about this, nevertheless, it's always nice to see this thread becoming an example of the same thing he was ranting about.
