View Full Version : Why are S rank missions dropping B rank units

So I took a look at the drop list that is stickied, and I saw the armor unit drop from Magas Magahnna Lv85.

now granted, that's a great unit, but WHY is it dropping from a level 85 boss? That's such horse-pucky it's not funny.

By the time you get to S rank missions you want to have units like that already!

Agree or Disagree?

It's to give those running highlevel missions something to sell so the mission wasn't a total loss when the stuff you wanted didn't drop. It's quite typical of loot tables industry-wide. Have the bosses drop not-so great loot so you come back over and over and over trying to get the really good stuff. Also puts money in your pocket as players from selling the stuff.

YMMV http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

My mileage IS varying http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif
I guess I'm a PSO guy through and through - there, the bosses and enemies dropped S-class items as that's the challenge players were facing. If you were lucky, a very few of those items were available in the equivalent to A ranked missions...

You can run MD-S at lvl 35....It would be wierd if S drops were commonplace there.

They have to leave something for S2, S3, and whatever comes after the S rank difficulties. U for ultimate maybe?

no boss in MD-S. And good luck running it at that level... especcially with a smaller party.

The rank doesn't define the quality of an item though. Plus, bosses don't drop items and boss box drops are set on a per mission basis.

Not having detailed knowledge of your experience, I can only go off of my experience of playing years of MMORPGs (what a frikkin' mouthfull). That is, bosses rarely ever drop the good stuff. The crap stuff is there to piss people off, in my honest opinion. Nothing like spending 6 hours chewing through a giant instance to have the head boss drop... craptastic items that nobody needs. It's a gimmik, but one that works as the "We'll get it to drop next time" mindset seems to take ahold of the group. I'd much prefer good drops all the time, but even then the runs would get boring and predictable. Besides, if the Super-awesome Weapons of Pwnination dropped every time, then everyone would have it and it just wouldn't be as cool when you found it.

To be honest, I have no knowledge of PSO other that it existed and the drops therin are a mystery to me. Seeing as how it's going away I'm not to eager to delve into the game. Besides, the expansion supposedly has the clothes and weapons, so PSO is coming to me!

edited 'cause speeling is hard

actually that's exactly what rank does? Bosses drop items. Well, miniboses anyway. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif
