Would it be possible to implement a reputation system on the forums?

Could you elaborate on what you have in mind?

Well, if you've noticed on some of the other forums, below a users avatar their information (posts, status, etc) is displayed. Under that information their repuation meter is shown and is mostly represented by blocks. The users reputation goes up by post count or simple user feedback. An example would be the SRK forums. ( http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=126778 )

Hope that helped. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

We had HP and TP bars, at one point. That was a fairly brief experiment in the early days.

Ultimately, it's up to Tomeeboy, but it seems to me that "reputation" information would be a likely source of flame and argument on this forum.

Is it not enough to stand out by your actions, alone?

In an ideal society where everyone is fair & mature, the rep system is a very nice feature.
Unfortunately, the internet is far for that. I've seen abuses & misuses in quite a number of places that have this system. I could be wrong, but the negative would outnumber the positive on this.

I'm no mod, but I agree heartily with Dhy and Meira.

Also, on some forums, the rep system is used to unlock certain privileges. Last time I visited the Nintendo forums, only users w/ >1000 posts could have a sig and post pics, or something like that. But no such restrictions exist to my knowledge on these forums save the access mods have. But that's not reputation based, anyway. Placing such restrictions seems a bad idea to me.

Hate to be a hater, Moses.

Unfortunately, I have to agree with the negative. My Evidence:

[Note, In this Example, I'm going to speak in frank, simply novice terms, please forgive me]

Moron 1: Tis is teh UBER 1337zorz!!!11!!111

Man 1: Um....why are you talking like that?

Moron 1: OMG!!1 U R TEH NOOB!!11!! BAD REP 4 U!! HAHAHAHA NOOB!

Man 1:......alright then.......

Sure, a Mod could easily fix this sort of thing, but they don't have all day to deal with inter-fools do they? http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

Seriously, Dre_o. Some people already seem to think that join date and post count are as good as jamming a yard stick among their pubes.

If we were to ever create some kind of new rep system, which we have discussed, it would be something that could not be tampered with so easily. More likely than not, it would not have a feature that allowed users to directly influence another user's reputation, as this would probably only lead to abuse in most cases.

Ive seen lots of places where the need for a reputattion leads to massive amounts of spam just to get the post count up. I dont want that to happen here... and not that ive done anything bad on this forum but if i did i wouldnt want all the poeple that see my avatar/profile to think im a mean/rude or disrespectful person. Though it be kinda funny to have an HP bar. You could make an Hp bar that goes down if you dont visit the site in a while. It would let people know whos around a lot. The mods would have like 63472435*10^7 HP but thats ok lol. Just an idea as something a little less dangerous or competitive.

As long as i am "god" or "Ginat Robot" im fine with any rep system http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif
But now that i have thought about it, you should add "Kissing a mods ass will only lower your rep"

Here is an example of what the code will be like for this system:

if(user == "DikkyRay")
SetReputation("VR-Raiden's Punching Bag");
else
...
