Siriously tho, Miyamoto is working closely with Sega to make this game, that's got to be a good sign. I'm not as excited about this then if Sonic would be announced for Smash Brothers, but this is still rather exciting.

Not sure if anyone else caught this news today, but Nintendo and Sega have teamed up to created a new Wii / DS title called Mario & Sonic at the Olympics. The game will be partially based on the 2008 Olympics held in Beijing and is slated for a holiday release this year.

Sounds like it could potentially turn into something similar to Wii Sports or Wii Play, with a number of olympic games (100m dash, swimming, and table tennis were mentioned).

Some of the available characters in the game will include Mario, Sonic, Luigi, Knuckles, Yoshi and Tails.

I don't see why people arn't looking foward to it. It'll probably be like a Wii Sports 2 with Sonic and Mario. That seems cool in my deparment.

From what I read at the Nintendo site, it seems like it's a bunch of Olympic themed minigames mushed together by Mario and Sonic characters...

That DDR Mario Mix must have sold too well perhaps.

They've already whored out to Mario Soccer, Golf, Tennis, and Basketball in addition to the aforementioned DDR, so this was probably the next logical step for them.

If Sonic starts appearing in more Mario games it might confuse the non-gamer types like my pops who swears by "That new Zelda game that's on the Playstation 3, let me play that!" But someone is going to geek out over this no matter how small a blip this is on the overall vid-game radar.

If they have plenty of demo kiosks and Mario statuettes out on display in Beijing during The Games who knows how much more money Nintendo is going to bank off of this, Sonic or not.

Good thing about this is...Sega promised to put Mario in a Sega game as long as Nintendo put Sonic in a Nintendo game.

And personally, I'd rather not see a SSB:B game that just has "Sonic tossed in as an extra character". Rather, I'd like to see a Sega v. Nintendo full-out franchise brawl. All of Nintendo's most loved franchise characters from previous SSB's games, along with a catalog of famous Sega characters. Joe Mushahsi, Alex Kidd, Guildus Thunderhead, VectorMan, Sarah Bryant, Nei and Neifirst, NiGHTS, Beat, Vyse, Ryo Hazuki, ect... ect...

I remember reading about it a while ago.
Its about you (some kid) who has become the head of Segagagagagagaga, the world's leading video game developer. You go on some crazy adventure trying to recruit other developers to your cause (the developer's are bosses and once you beat them you get them in your party). Or something like that. I'unno.

Why must Nintendo constantly make mini-game compilations for the Wii? Why the hell won't they create any, you know, real games? They have the ability to make great games, like Twilight Princess. They have the resources to produce games like Trauma Center. But, no, they have so many ideas for mini-games that they have to create several discs just to store 'em all.

See, this is why I haven't used my Wii unless my friends came over.

If I wanted to see Sonic and Mario, age-old rivals stemming from the beginning of the video game industry, go at it, I'd rather it be in a brawl of sorts (pun intended), not in the Goddamned Olympics.
