What theme stood out before any else? Which one just left you thinking about stuff you wouldn't normally stop and think about?

I have a couple.

FFX: Main theme

Chrono cross: First world map theme when you're "in another world", and the theme that hosts the first cinematic.

Metal gear solid: Main or last song, I don't remember. But when you hear it, you know.

I'm dying to hear more, so what were "your" songs?

Even though Final Fantasy VIII was my least my favorite game of the series, I really liked the battle music from Laguna's world (not to mention that Laguna was just about the only redeeming character in that game)... My all-time favorite songs are both from Final Fantasy VI: the phantom train song, and the mines of narshe theme.

Ninja Gaiden II: The main theme, and the theme from the Lightning stage. I'd listen to that forever...

...and still do.

This is gonna seem totally out of place and obscure, but I get goosebumps every time I play the final level on Rez, to Adam Freeland's "Fear". Just amazing, especially when you ascend into space and the music gets an almost angelic tone, and at the same time an enemy resembling a computer virus fused with an angel fills most of the screen. Man, that's seriously one of my favorite games of all time.

Starlight Zone music from Sonic 1 is one of my all time faves, i just like the twiddly chours bit in it.

The end theme to Sonic 2, where the Death Egg blows up and Tails goes to save Sonic. Im not sure why but i just love hearing that track an watching the little slide show that goes with it.

Sonic CD (japanese and european version) Opening and End theme. There just so cool and catchy, i still dont know why they got rid of them for the americain version...

'Open Your Heart' from Sonic Adventure. I could just sit about singing along to that song all day. I even put it in my GTA 3 and The Sims games.

The Doom theme. Just reminds me of al that time i sat in front of my old PC playing that game, i really want to get it as my phone tune.

'Take on Me' from Samba De Amigo. That track just rocks.

Hmmm, thats all i can think of at the minute.

Ok there is a few so bear with me.

Chrono Cross: main intro
MGS: The end credits and the music during Sniper Wolf's death
Panzer Dragoon: tough one but I'll say the end credits, music during logo/main menu, music during the short version of the CG intro.
FF VII: Aeris's theme
FF VIII: Eye's on Me
Mega Man 2: Intro music, Quickman's level (my favorite Mega Man level of all time! http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif).
Ecco the Dolphin (Sega CD): I don't know the track # or the level but there is one song that is so damn soothing and relaxing it's amazing.
Castlevania SotN: I am the Wind, Cathedral section

I'll leave it at that for the moment cause my mind is drawing some blanks. I have a lot of songs that stand out. I know there are some Sonic CD(U.S. version)songs but can't think which ones.

-Dynamite Rave

-Nori Nori Nori
-Butterfly (I got SS! with every perfect and 3 great's)

I always had a weird fix for older VGM tunes.
Here's my favorites:

- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3 The Manhattan Project (Bridge of Danger) (NES) (http://kesubei.virtualave.net/muzak/tmnt3.mp2)
My favorite old Konami soundtrack! Nothing's better than NES discofunk tunes. ^^

- Journey to Silius (Stage 2) (NES) (http://kesubei.virtualave.net/muzak/journeytosilius.mp2)
SOOO hauntingly nice... which is not surprising; the game was originally meant to have a Terminator license, so the chilling influence is there...

- Overlord (title) (NES) (http://kesubei.virtualave.net/muzak/overlord.mp2)
The MOST ambient NES tune by far IMO. I used to often keep this song in a loop while playing the Caves level in PSO DC ^^;;

- Silver Surfer (Game BGM) (NES) (http://kesubei.virtualave.net/muzak/silversurfer.mp2)
Whee!!! The game itself was kinda icky (not to mention impossible to beat), but the soundtrack rocked SOO much... ^^ The music composer (Tim Follin) also made the following song...

- Solstice (OP title) (NES) (http://kesubei.virtualave.net/muzak/solstice.mp2)
IMO the BEST NES tune. Ever. NO CONTEST. (even better that this was prolly the first English-made console game that was actually very popular with Japanese players). I LOVE Tim Follin SOOOOO much... *^^*

- Magical Chase (Meisou no Waltz - Part II) (Turbografx) (http://kesubei.virtualave.net/muzak/magicalchase.mp2)
This one is so nice to listen to, especially since this waltz tune is meant to sync up with the shooter game's enemy patterns when you play that certain level, which really adds up to the coolness. ^^

Yeah, most of my favorites come from that blippy-bloppy 8-bit NES. Considering I also arrange (http://kesubei.virtualave.net/muzak/Chibi-Tech%20-%20I%20Love%20U!.mp2) actual (http://kesubei.virtualave.net/muzak/Chibi-Tech%20-%20DNA%20Clonin.mp2) NES (http://kesubei.virtualave.net/muzak/Chibi-Tech%20-%20Turrican%20III%20Level%201%20mix.mp2) music (http://kesubei.virtualave.net/muzak/Chibi-Tech%20-%20Po-Barabanu%20(DanceDanceDendy%20Mix).mp2) out of (http://kesubei.virtualave.net/muzak/Chibi-Tech%20-%20Pandora's%20Grey-Box.mp2) my overinflated (http://kesubei.virtualave.net/muzak/Chibi-Tech%20-%20NSF%20Exploder.mp2) free-time (http://kesubei.virtualave.net/muzak/Chibi-Tech%20-%20NES3.mp2), this is definitely a bias. ^^;;

I do like newer stuff though... like "Super Turrican I"'s 1st level tune (http://kesubei.virtualave.net/muzak/superturricanlv11.mp2), and ending tune (http://kesubei.virtualave.net/muzak/superturricanending.mp2) (featuring the saddest piano ending ditty for a SNES game ;_;). "Shantae" for GBC also had some really great funky arabic hip-hop chipmusic (http://virt.vgmix.com/music/gb/jake_kaufman_-_shantae_-_bandit_town.mp3) to it (you know you got yourself some special talent when you create Cypress Hill inspired blippy hip-hop tunes... not to mention remix Gameboy renditions of Sisqo's "Thong Song" (http://virt.vgmix.com/music/Virt_-_Thong_Song_(GameboyMix).mp3). XD )

Oh, I do like a lot of the DDR mixes as well (well, at least the ones I can actually achieve a good score in... =P ) even though whenever i'm in my "music critique mode", I tend to think that they were made from some guy over-using his automated "Dance eJay" or "MTV Music Generator" programs. =P

... and yes, i'm also one of the very few who have MP3 versions of Totakeke's music in Animal Crossing. ^^;;;;

Well, this thread has got me addicted to playing Sonic again. Ive just finished playing Sonic 2 (on Sonic Jam) finishing off with a total of 326660 points and having got all the Chaos Emeralds by the end of the second level of Casinopolis Zone (is that the right name, bah, cant remember now).

And just to stay on topic, the ingame music from Puzzle Bobble, it just so cheesy and great to play along to.

Anyhow, yes, let it be KNOWN: JSR had the best non-music-game, non-RPG soundtrack of ALL TIME. ... UNTIL Jet Set Radio Future came along. It's an extremely hard decision, but I'd say that JSRF has the best soundtrack of all time in a game. Once again combining obscure licenced music with funktastic urban elecktro soul for the PERFECT music to accompany your urban-Japan graffiti romp.
Oh, how I love those games.

Of course, I'm also a huge fan of Nobuo Uematsu and all of his glorious FF soundtracks, as well as pretty much everything DDR. I could go on and on listing my favorite game music, so I'll just leave it like this.

Most of the FFVII, X ST.

JSR/F

NiGHTs- Two absolutely beautiful songs...whose names escape me. But the whole ST.

PDS- the Final Theme.(real title too long and hard to type out) and most of it's music too.

A lot of the Sonic music, favorite though is S&K 2nd level, (Metal Egg...?) second act. Final Rush from SA2.

Zelda: OoT even though most of the songs showed up earlier in Zelda: LttP...
