View Full Version : Photon Luck- Sega Team Answer

Raysa
Apr 11, 2007, 04:42 PM
Alot of people weren't sure about what does Photon Luck effect. So I asked SegaTeam through E-mail and got this response.

Hello,

Luck affects the chance of finding rare drops, rare creatures, and rare
items. Luck can also positively affect your chances in other aspects of
the game such as grinding and synthesizing. If you have any other
questions, please let us know.

Thank you

lol, hah! I always thought it affected synths, which is why the last time I had 3 luck I managed to get so many grinder B+10's hah! I can't believe people didn't think it affected synths mwahah!

It only affects drop frequency (frequency as in if you kill an enemy while having no luck alot of the enemys will drop nothing but if you have 3 star luck they will always drop an item, but it never affects the chances that you find an item), the chances of synthing a good grinder, and the chances of successful grinds.

Does luck affect boss drops?
SEGA's response would imply that it does ...

How do you people know this? Have you actually tested your theories...doubt it.

SolomonGrundy

the grinding thing should be SO easy to test.

wait for a luck 3 day
buy 200 c rank grinders (20k)
buy 40 c rank grinder boards (6K)

record results.
do the same thing on a 0 luck day.

Also: make sure female cast luck is zero on both days. I've often wondered if it was female Cast luck affecting synth.

How do "rare items" differ from "rare drops". I thought the terms "items" and "drops" were pretty interchangable.

lol... This is funny...

Okay, the bible which is taken from information from the game devs themselves states that photon fortune influences only the drop anything rates of enemies/boxes/whatever and grinding odds. Nothing else. Now, someone that does tech support for their job (especially at a foreign branch from the main company) isn't likely gonna know these things.

Also, I've seen from personal experience while tracking down item drops from enemies that fortune influences their drop anything rates which would match up with what the bible says. Furthermore, if they really knew what they were saying, they'd be using the correct term of "photon fortune" and not "photon luck" >.>

also, Sonoummi, I thought there was some agreement that luck affected rare map apearance?

I think he wasn't thinking while stating those o.o;

Then again... He's saying "Luck." Real life luck fits his statement more than the Photon Luck/Fortune.

There's no way luck affects rare map appearance. I've tried getting the rare map for Endrum Remnants 6+ hours straight on a 3 Luck day and not get a single rare map. Then, on my way to De Ragnus on a 0 Luck day, I get a rare map without even trying. It's the same with many maps. Luck definitely had no effect when I was hunting Loveheart Line. I swear I'd only get one rare spawn per day on 2 and 3 Star Luck days if I got one at all.

Golto

When they say it effects rare drops and rare items it means rare drop (ores gems etc) have a better chance of dropping their max star number rarity for that mission. Instead of getting a lot of under 6* ores you get more 8* ores. Instead of getting copernia you get goldarnia. Ores and gems have a lot of overlapping monster lvls that several different items can drop. Rare items could mean weapons/boards basically things that have only one possibility for a monster at a certain lvl to drop. Luck increases the chance these could drop.

Yesterday at +3 luck I got two rare spawns within 4 runs. Whatever that means.

It's completely anecdotal, of course, but I used Skyepic's guide to try and find an Easter Egg for an hour or so with no stars and struck out.

When I had luck a couple of days ago I got a rare map on the Hive level, so I popped over to LL and got rappy spawn on my second attempt with two Easter Eggs.

Mind you...it may have just been real life luck, rather than Photon Fortune, I guess.

Yep, I believe this too that it effected making B+10, cuz I got a crapload more on a Luck 2/3 day making them then when I had no luck

This is really odd stuff. The other day when Newman females had 3 luck, I happened to have seven synths of weapons ready to be pulled. All seven were successful. I usually get 4/7, or 3/7.. nope, 7/7. Today, where she has 1 luck, I got 5/7. Hmm.

It never worked like that before, I know that much. And I only seem to find rare maps when I have no luck or 1 luck, never 3. >< I've seen multiple Hard/Power Charges and one Halp Serafi board drop when I had no luck. These days, I try to do all my farming when I have 1-2 luck. 3 luck does nothing. :/

Maybe he deliberately used the term 'luck' instead of 'Photon fortune'?

If we remove the original question from the context, there is basically nothing wrong with the paragraph above (and nothing helpful as well, since we all know that already).

He could be side-stepping the issue by providing a technically correct but unrelated 'answer'.

Maybe a reply asking specifically if he meant 'luck' or 'Photon Fortune' might settle the issue.

This email of theirs is Total Crap, and here is why!!!

I got 3 sets of Easter Rappies within 2-3 hour times and had only 1 or no luck those days. While, the past 3 days I spent all day hunting with 2 star luck.......got squat!

Synths.......I have gotten my most successful synths (44% Hoza Dark, 20% Deljabaner, room decos, etc) while having 1 to no luck......3 star luck days have only been useful to me in loading me up with crap items while hunting and occasionally helping me grind weapons past 5, while at times even with the best grinders still breaking my weapons.....GRRRRR

There.....definitive results.......oh, and on a Zero luck day I pulled 5 B+10 Grinders as well.

Honestly, I longgggggg for zero luck days, just today I had zero luck and pulled 12 star material items off serveral places and all I was doing was rappy hunting...

I would like to respectfully suggest again that it seems possible that FEMALE CAST photon fortune would affect synth (as that is what your PM is).

I also submit that I do not know for sure, and have NOT done extensive testing. However, the next female cast 3 luck day, I will be doing more testing for sure (the c rank grinder test should be a large enough sample size).

What does sega team know anyway, its not like they play the game. You never see MODs outside event times, and when you do they are lvl 1. A little bird must have told them, or the voices in their heads.

There have been mods out of event times. Like this one for example. 3 players were found with the name "SEGA Security." It was a violation against one of their rules so they gave a warning to the players, at the same time informing everyone about the situation. There may seem to not be mods around but you can at least report players via the official website... It might even seem like there's a Sega Mod watching around http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif.
