Gaim (open source messaging client) has just (as in within the last 2 weeks) changed its name to Pidgin. Their page says that as a result of a lawsuit from AOL they were unable to release a new full version until it was settled (being stuck with 2.0 betas for a long time), and a name change was part of the settlement.
Hopefully by the end of the week the 2.0 official release is released.
