What's the longest song you've ever seen/heard/heard of and how long was it?

I don't care if its modern, or some really-really long classical music.

The longest song I have is "Balance Is Restored" from Final Fantasy VI at 21 minutes, 35 seconds - But I know there are much longer ones out there.

Longest I've heard is some songs from Led Zeppelin's How the West Was won album (it's one of their live albums). On that album, Dazed and confused along with two other songs (the CD has it as a single track, and from memory there was no pause between songs) is 25:25.

Longest song made after 1900 I know about is Jethro Tull's "Thick as a Brick" at 43:50. I believe I have heard some techno songs last much longer.

I'm not sure if you can call Albuquerque a song...

I'm glad I found this topic before Hrigg did. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

The longest song in my library is Providence, by Godspeed You! Black Emperor. It clocks in at 29:02.

The longest song on my winamp playlist is a live version of X-Japan's Art of Life, clocking in at a brain-destroying 36:55. Second longest is also Art of Life, the studio version, at 28:56. Considering that the studio version has a 10-minute piano solo, you can imagine the brain damage caused by the live version. Not currently on my playlist, my mp3 got corrupted, but the full vocal performance of the opera from FFVI is 26-something minutes long.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned Dark Side of the Moon yet.

You mean THE What is Love? By Haddaway? The one immortalized by SNL?

79 minutes? VERY YES!

Even though it is best to listen to Dark Side of the Moon as a full album, it is still very easy to divide it into the individual songs (the CD lists it as 9 tracks). It is also only 42 minutes long, just slightly shorter than the Jethro Tull song/album I listed above.

The longest song I've heard was probably a live rendition of Terrapin Station (post Jerry). The song is normally about 17 minuites long, but at this show they extended it out to about 75 minuites.

Though it's hard to say that can compete with an entire show - as usually the shows I've seen don't just have them playing one song at a time. They'll loop from the first song into the second, then loop back to the first leading into the third, then back to the second, then fourth.... ect... ect... So they might play several songs, but all jumbled together into one long continuous 2 hour song.

The longest song I have is "Dopesmoker", by Sleep, which clocks in at 1 hour, 3 minutes, and 31 seconds.

However, I think I win this topic.

The song, (if you can call it that http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif) "As Slow as Possible" by John Cage is expected to last 639 years.

Longest I've heard:

Dream Theater- In the name of God: 14:15
Iron Maiden- Rime of the Ancient Mariner: 13:34

I wasn't aware there was a 41-minute Dream Theater song, but I've only just been introduced to the band by a friend.

I have a techno song on Stepmania entitiled "Ayu Trance 2" that happens to be just over 37 minutes long. Compare this to the average SM/DDR song that is about 1 minute 30 seconds. Playing it felt like an enternity.

Well, it has over 8000 notes throughout the entire chart, but the it's nothing terribly hard. It would be disgusting if it had 16th streams, 16th jumps, drills, etc.

World By Storm By Aiden.

18:00 I tried to download it once but it has yet to finish. =[

Its a pretty good song but the reason its so long is because the singer [wiL Francis] does a speech in it about life &the people that listen to song &how they're like your family. =]

Isn't there a super long movie-length-like version of MJ's Thriller?

Where the narrator goes on about darkness and zombies and whatnot.

The full music video of Thriller is something like 11 minutes, but not all of that is the actual song. The song itself is about 5 minutes long.
