Ok, i just posted on the Sega message boards, and i got no response, and hopefully, someone on this message board can help me...

I looked in 8 different stores yesterday, and i finally saw a modem!! I was going to pick it up, but read the package, showing that it doesn't work with AOL, compuserve, and most free ISPs...

Well, that's just dandy, since i have AOL... but... what ISPs do work?? If anyone knows any free ones that work, that'd be great... if not... any $9.95 a month providers allow the GC modem to work?? Please help me out, the quicker i find out, the faster i can online, its just not Phantasy Star Online without the online! Offline is only fun for so long you know http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

If you want to get online for $9.95 a month or less, you want to think locally. Try sniffing out local ISPs that serve only your area. You'll have a far greater chance of coming across something that is considerably less expensive than a national ISP. Of course, you'll lose some of the benefits that nationwide providers such as AOL provide: Limited or no tech support, slower speeds (though sometimes the opposite may be true), and no account access outside your area (unless they provide webmail). There are advantages, too: The chance of receiving more personalized service, the possibility of local in-person tech support, and more.

Assuming you live in the United States, this ought to help you out immensively:

Further, you can use AOL with PSO, but you would have to set up your computer for ICS (Internet Connection Sharing), purchase the broadband adapter, and use your computer as a server. There would be no direct and/or reliable way of doing it otherwise, unfortunately.

I've used my National ISP since my PSO v1 days, it's only like 10 a month for it, and I've never had a problem with them. If you're interested in what I use, its called BudgetSurf (http://www.budgetsurf.net). It works both computers and consoles alike.

Thanks a lot, i picked up a modem today, since they are very fabled in stores recently http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif, even so more the broadband adapter, which i saw only 1 today. I figured even if i didn't get help yet, i have the modem, so i can research the best mode of action, and then use it. If not, well, its still mint in box, easy return if i can't use it http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif, once again, thanx a bunch, maybe see ya online soon! http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif
