Most guys of 30 think they are old farts.* Resulting in me having to avoid their company and seek the friendship of younger, less fucking miserable people.

Seriously I avoid people my age like the absolute fucking plague.

Perhaps it explains why I've only been with younger guys?

*I should clarify here. Most women of 30 are miserable about it, try to hide it. Most men of 30 absolutely fucking REVEL in it. Seriously if a guy takes on the "old" demeanor at 30 he'll be like that for life. You've lost him.

Now the women who are miserable, and the guys who revel in it, you want to avoid them both. They account for about 90% of 30+ year olds.

Also may I clarify that 90% of 18-21 year old gamers are at a crisis point in their lives.

45% of them are getting bored of games. They will eventually get a job, get married, never play games again. Except when their kid introduces them to some cutesy puzzle game at some point in the future and they'll play it all day and steal their kids' gameboy mk. 10.

45% of them are getting bored of games too, but they'll cling stubbornly to their youth and stick some piece of shit like oh, say PSO on a lofty pedestal. They'll get weepy eyed over oh, say PSO and say stuff like "Only *insert game here, say PSO* had any charm!"

The other 10% have sense, still enjoy games and change with the times.

Seriously they ALL are weepy eyed over some shit 80s-90s console, they look at porn all day and boast about it (especially where girls look underaged), they never got married which has turned them mysogenistic and bitter about women, they are all monsters.

They used to be such fresh, interesting people.

Just copied this off their shitty forum they made originally to deify the Dreamcast and is now full of underage looking porn and rants about old age (they are all 25-35) and how shit women are:

"Myself and *name deleted to protect not so innocent* were going to do a site a couple of years ago, called The Brotherhood. Basically a portal to here, but a support network for men fucked over by women once too often. A place to rant and carry on with unbridled misogyny. A place like minded Brothers could be the men they wanted to be completely free of the lash of female opression. With a good supply of humour, porn and games content to provide distraction from the evil cuntmongers."

This thread is filled with late 20s and 30s ppl doing exactly the shit I detest.

"I'm 30. But blah blah. I still blah blah. Still am able to blah. I still like xyz. Been playing this series since the 80s, I'm so old lol. I still..."

WHAT'S WITH THIS "STILL" SHIT AND WHY DO YOU HAVE TO ACT LIKE AN OLD FOGEY WHO IS YOUNG AT HEART? No, it's not something to be proud of. It alienates you. I learned the goddamn hard way.

Why do you have to come into the thread to justify "still" playing games and to point out that you are not young but you "still" have fun?

Also "I still have a life." Well fyi, you have a life by the very virtue of not acting like a sad, tired old misery with a 9-5 job and a mortgage. It's not the gaming part that marks you as not having a life. It's letting the crap that comes with adult life *that most people do* get you down. And hankering after your youth, a trap that most idiots fall for and end up lonely and miserable in old age. Like all my ex-friends that I ditched for this shit. And it's the YOUNG people in this thread, the 18-21 year olds that I'm warning, you know, those most likely to fall for "PSO WAS SO MUCH BETTER! PSO HAD REAL CHARM!" crap. With my crowd it was the "3D graphics are so cocksuckingly awful! I will play this NES for the rest of my life! I shall lubricate its cartridge slot with my bitter years for my lost childhood!"

Also anyone from 25-35 in this thread who came here to post speculatively on the merits of being an "old" or "older" gamer deserves a sharp slap in the face from those who are *really* old.

So....I guess I'm not allowed to have a sense of humour about it? :/

Before anyone comments "Wow, you're old!", joking about it usually takes the wind out of their sails.

Honestly? I just like games, period. I only give my age if someone specifically asks for it, or for the sake of getting together with other "old farts" who are gaming enthusiasts as well.

But the thing to remember is this: don't lose your sense of humour. Because then, you really are old. Lighten up..don't take gaming or life so seriously.

I don't like playing with people who think that just because I don't make age related jokes, which by the way are a social construct made to demean older people who aren't even really old, makes me a bitter old fart.

I think you're a bitter old fart if you make age related jokes, because you're trying to lighten a scenario that obviously bothers you. Otherwise, you wouldn't make said jokes and draw attention to your age all the goddamn time. All my ex-friends made said jokes, and like I say they became embittered, miserable and lonely in their late 20s. And if they stopped fucking seeing themselves as old and making age related jokes on the internet, and instead went out and had fun like they used to and LIGHTENED UP, perhaps they would not be such miserable old farts. No?

This may not exactly go with the topic, but this is how I feel~

There are a few steps in a person's life. Unlike most people, however, I do not base this on a person's age.

Young--You are very gullible. You also pertain to follow others, and will do what others say, regardless of what it is, unless strictly told otherwise (if someone needs an explanation, I'll say).
Middle-aged Young--You have your own personality. You don't always believe other people, but you can still trust people, too. You want your own thing done your way most of the time, and it is annoying for you to give it up. When you are in an argument, instead of being kind and listening to the other person's point of view, you skip their view and bash on them with your point and anger towards them.
Middle-Aged/Mature--You have a personality that is all yours; not a personality you've been tricked into by peer-pressure. You argue by taking the matter and listening to the other person's point of view, then showing them your point also, and not in an angered/yelling way. You also can give up things when needed, but of course, since it's still something all humans have problems with, you may not always give them up when necessary. You also know when and how to trust people; hopefully you have been able to earn someone's trust and allowed yours to be given to others.
Old age--You wish you were still in the past; you believe everything was better then and now is just worse and worse and worse... You still are much like the Middle-Aged/Mature person, but only you have not been attempting to stay with the current times.

Sounds a bit like a Chinese fortune or something, eh? http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

Now, of course that's not how things would exactly be, since no two people are the same, but I think that's in a sense how things are.

Congrats, but you're still pretty early into adult life and nobody should call you old, nor should you consider it a mark of pride and think it makes you more valid than anyone.

Why does this game skew so young?

I'm 23 and easily the oldest person I play amongst regularly... though I'm sure they benefit greatly from my wisdom ^_^ I think I'm the only one with a "career" and post-collegiate life.

I'm 20, and there's no way in hell I'll be getting tired of games any time soon - hell, I make the things. Passion is my driving force, thus the geekitude.

But I don't get this... 30 is "old?" When did this happen, and why wasn't I informed? :/

My dad is old. He's 65.

Isn't the average lifespan of a human somewhere close to 75? I'd say, when you're getting to the upper end of the spectrum, then you're considered old. Thus why people at 65 and older get special deals and discounts, 'cause they're freaking old.

21 here...I think. *Looks at date* Yep, 21.

I kind of lose track of my age. After high school it doesn't seem to matter much anymore.

Now I'm going to pretend we all live in an anime world and say anyone over 20 is an "old timer".

I'm 15. It's always awkward to tell people my age on the internet because people always reframe their idea of what I should act like in respect to my age, or whatever. Which leads to me overcompensating. IT IS SUCH A BIG MESS.

In the end I guess it is not really important whether or not people on the internet like and respect me, though.

I met a 50-some year old guy and his wife on PSO v.1. Bought the DC for his grandkids, and ended up playing it more than they did. Seemed like a nice enough dude, until you played him on Quake III. Goddamned that old bastard was ruthless. So much for "twitch" games being just for the youngers crowd.
