View Full Version : Killing Seed Pods Faster. Small Discovery.

Hey. I know this will eventually be moved to the Guides/walk through section
but I've discovered yet another trick in this game.

Mainly, this is for the event http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif.

So straight to the facts:

It takes approximately 3 Seconds
to destroy a seed pod alone.
With this small little trick, you can
take one out under 1 second.

Here's a video for explanations:

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e349/skyepic/th_KillingSeedfast.jpg (http://s42.photobucket.com/albums/e349/skyepic/?action=view&current=KillingSeedfast.flv)
Note: I've done the move a little slower to show. Also, sorry for the video quality. It's stinky http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif...

Basically, what you do is...
Hold your strafe key/button, and fire the weapon.
At the same time, you rapidly press up or down.

The Photon Erasers does a TPS [Ticks per second]
when you hold it down normally. Breaking the
TPS and repeatedly firing will help speed up
the process of "tagging" the seed pod.

Hope this speeds up some of your runs. Good luck!

New Edit:
I forgot to mention that if you do seed purifying this way, the Photon Eraser can charge quickly while you're actually "canceling" the gun by strafing while firing. This will give you more PP for the gun instead of wasting it for a 3 second fire.

So... More PP for the long tedious missions instead
of waiting for it to recharge!

Credit goes to Hikaru for Stop-watching the experiments and helping with the vid.

Nice find. Sometimes it flips the camera on me but otherwise it's a really helpful hint.

Another small addition to that strategy is that as soon as you get the pod targeted with the goggles you can start zapping from the goggle mode. Just a nice shortcut.

Not of any use on Neudaiz, but... this seems like it would certainly help cut down times on Moatoob and Parum. Does it work at all on the large SEED-Gozoma that require three people, though?

this trick...kinda reminds me of the Buster Firing trick in Rockman Dash games. Without needing to buy the Energy/Rapid parts =p

I'd like to know this my self. If somebody cant get that information by the end of today, Ill try to do some research on it.

Honestly, I NEVER knew about this. I gave it a whirl in Sea of Fire and Burning Garden earlier this morning, and man did it work wonders!

Thanks for sharing this with us!

I don't have a stop-watch to see the real difference, but I think this will help greatly on timed missions.

Hey it works nicely! I remember hearing about a trick like this found on the Japanese version. I'm guessing this is what it was.

Thanks for sharing.

It'll definitely work. The thing is, once "all 3" players initiate the seed purification session, there will be ~1-3 seconds of purifying before it needs a "repurify." That just means that when you actually start purifying, one of you can actually stop and watch the other continue purifying for those 1-3 seconds.

Now... You can definitely do this trick for the
Giant seed pod. The thing is though they have more
"health" than the smaller ones so it'll take a couple seconds longer. If all 3-6 players attack the pods
with the trick, then it can be destroyed faster.

These pods are mainly about Ticks per second from
the lasers so "manually controlling" can speed it up. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif.

To be honest, it doesn't look much quicker. I think outside of Parum, it's not much use.

The "Strafe Cancel" (as I'm officially dubbing it) actually works on some other things, too.

You can use it to a very minor extent on normal combos (and I mean very minor - milliseconds of difference, usually) - unfortunately, it probably won't make enough of a difference to actually be that useful. Theoretically, it should also work with the Photon Reflector from Story Mode, too.

I was having trouble recording while trying to do the trick due to the lag lust.

Hikaru's demonstration shows exactly the speed difference from his first pod towards the second pod.

The first pod was a regular "hold down button" purification while the second pod used the trick. Review and count seconds
to see for yourself. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

Nice video, great quality :3
but... why do you scroll to your goggles on the item bar? I'm not sure what the key is on PC, but I recall an update a while back that allows us to activate them without going through the item palette. PS2 all we have to do now is press R2 while we're in 1st person view to turn goggles on. Infact, Goggles don't even have to be in your item palette.

Thanks and yeah I havent really used that "feature" I should though... with a bit of practice I should be able to pull off an even faster time lol.

it feels a hell of a lot quicker to me. once i found out about this technique i find it impossible to go back to doing it the normal way. now it feels like it takes forever to drain a pod doing it the old way.
