How do you type in Japanese

Very slowly.

If you are on PS2, PS2 or Xbox 360, you can't.

If you are on PC, you have to allow your IME settings to read/write Japanese. This action will most likely need your Windows XP CD, so get it in your drive.

Control Panel -> Regional and Language Options --> Languages tab --> Check the two boxes, click Apply --> Click Details --> Select to Add a service, and add Japanese inputs, like that:

You'll also want to make sure to have it display the language bar.

Once you've got that up(I prefer it maximized at the top of the screen so it just covers part of maximized window title bars, rather than minimized taking up space on the task bar), you'll see something that should default to saying EN English; click on that and it'll give you a drop-down menu, select Japanese. You'll generally want to leave it on hirigana input mode if you're doing actual Japanese typing. Unless you need characters you need an alt+# code to input, you can leave it in Japanese mode on 'Direct Input' and it'll let you type normal english characters.

Hiragana is very easy to read. Kanji on the other hand..

The only hard part about typing in japanese is the key layout is different. For ease you could just get a JP keyboard but it's not necessary.

Fuck typing in japanese and all the weaboos and gaijins who advocate it; even if they provide the copy pasta of the right words for sigs, macros, and names. I'm American, so i'll type in American

Ah, it truly is saddening that we don't get stars, music notes and boxes by default. I've always wanted to throw stars around judiciously, but meh. What're ya gonna do right?
