Yeah, you can. But you need an extension for FireFox. And then you'll need a .FLV player to view them.

Veoh seems to have better video quality than YouTube, too.

Can you use Windows Media Player or do you have to download a codec?

Yeah it's possible. Easy to use site.

There's also a Firefox add-on that allows you to download Youtube videos in one click. (forgot the link)

Windows Media Player? No, I don't think so. Since that's controlled by MS, users can't make their own codec packs - and MS doesn't support it. I use the CCCP (Combined Community Codec Pack) and Zplayer - but there were additional codecs I had to install to allow it to play .FLV's. You can probably just download a FLV specific player - but I prefer Zplayer.

VLC Media player also supports .FLV file format. It supports pretty much anything, and can even play unfinished video downloads.

I use SUPER:

You can take just the audio channel or video separately too if you want. Lots of options on quality. No trial license limitations.

VLC ftw. You could feed it a text file and play that.

Players like WMP require installed codecs and aren't very flexible. Generally, any player that has a /codecs directory will be fine. Just dump all the codecs you can find in there and you shouldn't have too may problems. I suggest getting your codecs packages from mplayers website. That has always been pretty comprehensive in the past.

I use a site called video downloader. You just throw in the link and download the file. You have to change the extension to .flv and you're set. If you want it to be something else you can simply convert it.
