This happens when the number of recorded replies in a thread does not synch up with the actual number. Usually this will happen on longer threads or when the database server decides to hiccup.

Ah, I was wondering why it did that, I usually just hit previous and it's fine, though. ;]

In most cases, you'll only see that error message right when a thread is about to wrap over to a new page. If you go back to the previous page, you'll see the thread like you normally would.
