View Full Version : PSU-PC: Slow movement between areas

I play the PC version of PSU, and when going between different areas of the game (Mostly the beginning of a mission or between blocks) I always go slower than everyone else. Like between the first and second block of Scorched Valley on Moatoob, I can go through the door to the next block and not even use the charge cube, but someone who went for the charge cube ends up in the 2nd block before me. I go about 10 seconds slower than others. Even PS2 players! I used to play the PS2 version and I know i went faster between blocks so it must be some problem with my PC.

It's not like I have problems with lag and such. Just this one area of the game is slow.

My PC Specs are:

Dell XPS 400
Intel Pentium D 2.8 GHz
2 GB of RAM
160GB hard drive

Um if you're tech savvy and can help me out, I would appreciate it. If there is any more information about my setup you would like to know just ask.

Set the frameskip to 1, and play in full screen. That's what helped me out at least.

Also since Im playing using Vista Ultimate I did this: http://boards2.sega.com/psu_board/viewtopic.php?t=21715 since PSU doesnt exactly like to act normally :>. But it was mentioned on there that it also worked for XP, so it might help you as well.

I've tried playing in full screen mode, and I always have frame skip set at 2, and I've even tried that weird autogear program, but nothing works. Like I said, I can play the game just about perfectly with little to no lag, as long as post effects are off, but it's just going from area to area that is too slow.

I mean at the loading screen, that white bar that appears under the areas name and the light that moves on the PSU logo don't even do anything for a good 6 seconds or so. They just sit there looking stupid :/

Errr I just noticed..... you didn't mention a video card. Are you using an IGP that came with the computer? If so THAT'S your problem right there :> Even a cheapo video card will help you out BIGTIME as far as PSU out goes. Heck it will help you out for a whole bunch of other stuff too lol.

Yeah, it's some 128MB RadeonX300/X550 on board video card that came with the PC. I messed with it's settings here and there but nothing ever worked. I wish it wasn't the problem http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif

Well as I'd mentioned you can get a cheapo one for about 100-150 if you want to play PSU and you should be fine.... or at least it played ok with my comp at home where I bought a radeon 9250 as a temporary card while I save up for a larger card (most likely an 8800 gtx ).

Alrighty, looks like I cured my own problem. I had to turn MIPMAP on. After I did that, the loading time between areas went back to normal!

I had avoided turning it on because it caused massive slowdown for me when it became available. It did cause some slowdown when I just enabled it, but not as much as it used to. I suppose I'll have to lower some settings to compensate http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif

Oh well. Thanks for responding Chii! I'm sure some of your suggestions will come in useful while trying to cure this new slowdown...except full screen mode. I'll never use that http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif
