Personally, from that list I recommend Shadow Hearts Covenant.

If you haven't played ICO or Shadow of the Colossus yet then I highly recommend you do so.

ICO for atmosphere, subtley, action-puzzle solving and a great (albeit brief) experience.

SotC for a combination of the above (when exploring or just 'being') plus 16 of the coolest boss fights you will ever have on a ps2.

They're not rpg's, in the stat-based sense, but you really do feel like you're taking on a role and playing it out in those games, more so than many standard rpg's and jrpg's.

If you have your heart set on a more traditional rpg (from the point of view of leveling up and managing stats) than I would recommend the Shin Megami Tensei games on ps2.

For that matter, if you are able to kick it really old-school (by today's standards) grab Persona 2 (a psx game from 2000). The music and story in that game hold up well to this day, and its blend of demon-taming and personas is awesome.

haha ive beaten the first 3 of the dot hack series and after i got the 4th i lost my memory card while moving it sucked but ya i was thinkin bout gettin god of war is that good

it's an extension of the first 4's story that happens 7 years later. It's not so much the same, and you really don't need to play the first 4 to know what the G.U. series is talking about though it does help.

the 4th game is the most annoying of the series, cuz the difficulty goes sky high.

.hack could have, and SHOULD have been epic. It had a game, a couple anime series, quite a few manga, and some random spin offs. Compound this with an original and intruiging plot idea, it couldve been amazing.

Unfortunately, could and should are not equal to 'is'.

The series' were bogged down by there own story. Never in my life have I ever laid witness to a show about an ACTION RPG that had so little ACTION. I swear to god, there MIGHT have been a minute of fight scenes for the ENTIRE show.

And the games? Well, call me hypocritical for playing PSU as a fortegunner, but all the games were was "X,X,X,X,X,X,X,X,X,X,X,X,X,X, Heal,X,X,X,X,X,X,X,X,X,X,X,X,X,X,X,X,X,Heal,X,X,X, X,X,X,X,X,X,X,X,X,X,"-etc. At least in PSU I do that online, not pseudo-online.

Really, I wanted to like .hack SOOOO much, but it was impossible, I played through the 1st and 2nd games, and then realized I wasnt getting any enjoyment from them whatsoever.



As for a good RPG currently out, If you havent played "Super Paper Mario" or "Paper Mario: The thousand year door" their both stellar titles. "Super" is a little to easy in the boss fights, but its basically pure fanservice and fun.

An older title that comes to mind is "Shining Soul 2" for the GBA. Amazing game. Think Diablo+Zelda=Fun. Plus its got more replay value than I care to talk about.

And if you have a DS, even though its not a TRUE rpg, theres "Custom Robo Arena". Which is easily the most spectacular display of the DS's wi-fi capabilities I have seen. Think "Armored Core"+"Japanese Toys"-the bad in armored core=Amazing mech game.

have you but custom robo arena cuz i'm like at the last two fn grudge matches but i cant seem to finish any of the arcade battle games... but back on topic your right about .hack series being not as good as hoped and as for super papaer mario.. i forgot i had a wii so i think i'm gonna go buy that soon

The matches against the ex-champ and his little sister? Those arent too bad, but getting to them are.

Arcade is tough, but my strategy was sound. For any and all close quarters fights use a metal baboon and Magnum. Long range fights use a Glaive and a pheonix gun or any long range fast hitting weapon.

P.S. Meteor Fall gun is teh hax.
