Hi there

After viewing this page (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/908874/en-us?sd=xbox) I am wanting to forward ports 88, & 3074 for my Xbox 360. However the problem is that I have a DHCP configuraion on a Linksys WRT4GL router and, it does not assign static IP through MAC.

I do know that any IP address that is outside of the DHCP range is static.

For example:
If DHCP count is 10
Starting DHCP IP is 192.168.1.100
Then 192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.109 is the DHCP range
Which implies that 192.168.1.110 to 192.168.1.253 is the static IP range

With this said, can I assign my Xbox 360 an IP address that is within the static IP range through the manual option of the edit network setting screen, and then forward the desired ports to that IP on the router?

Thanks

Yeah, the easy way to do it is to connect to Xbox Live though the test configuration using DHCP and write down the information (IP & DNS settings). Then switch it over to manual configuration and input the working IP and DNS as your new static IP & DNS. Reguardless of weither or not your router is set to DHCP or Static IP - it will accept the Xbox's static IP.

I'm no networking guru, but I don't think you have to worry about the range at all. You should be able to pick any IP between 198.162.1.2 - 198.162.1.255. Unless of course you're using ICS in which you'd be running off of your PC's secondary Ethernet card's IP which would likely be 192.168.2.1 (or whatever it may be). In that case you'll need to forward appropriate ports on both your PC and your Router so it wouldn't be a bad idea to set your PC's IP as static as well.

With my configuration, I have a WRT54G connected to three PC's, and a smaller sub-net in the game room.

So 192.168.1.1 for the Router
192.168.1.2 (first PC)
192.168.1.3 (secondary PC)
192.168.1.4 (Game Room PC)
- 192.168.2.1 (Game Room PC 2nd Ethernet - ran to a hub)
- 192.168.2.2 (X360)
- 192.168.2.3 (PS2)
- 192.168.2.4 (NGC)
- 192.168.2.5 (Xbox)

Ect.

You can pick any IP for your static, but when you do you need to reserve it in your DHCP IP list...thingy. I have a DLink though so maybe my configuration won't work for you. I'll take a screenshot later of my router's "control panel". In my experience though, forwarding ports didn't help me much (again, it was a DLink, DI-624 revision C), so I ended up buying the router I have now, the DIR-655, which works excellently.

When I had my Xbox 360 network settings under automatic it had an open NAT. Now after giving my Xbox 360 a static IP and forwarding ports 88, 2074, & 3074 I have a strict NAT.

The odd things is that I think that I am connecting to games alot better with the static IP. Going to have to do more tests.

Did I forget to forward any ports?
Also, what do you think about the DMZ function of the router for the Xbox 360?

Thanks
