Upgrading from 256, but it isn't showing up as more, is there more to it than just puting another stick in?

It's uhh got something to do with your BIOS maybe? I don't know but a friendly tip that may lead you to the right place http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

BIOS? How do I do that?

I don't really have any idea what I'm doing, I thought I just had to put it in and I'd be set. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime2.gif

You didn't give us much to go on. What type of RAM is it? How large is the new stick? What is the max supported by the motherboard? Is the motherboard capable of dual channel? How many slots total do you have for memory and how many are you using?

I doubt there is anything you would need to go into the BIOS for and most off the shelf pcs (Dell, Gateway, HP etc.) have locked BIOSes anyway and won't let you change stuff like timings and voltage.

Just a note that pressing Del at boot won't get you into the BIOS on every pc. Different boards require different buttons.

I set a restore point beforehand, so I should be fine, right?

Do I actually have to change anything? or will it do it on its own?

My motherboard has 2 slots, the stick I added has chips on both sides, but I don't know how much it has, I have another stick that isn't as good, shoud I use that?

My PC info:

eMachines
T1115/T1116/T1120
Intel(R) Celeron(TM) CPU
1200MHz
1.20 GHz
256 MB of RAM

I think the stick I added is probly at least as big as the one I already had.

Well read it! I know little nothingabout computer repair stuff, but you obviously don't go sticking random things into it.

I got the stick from a friend, the size is written on it, and I don't remember how large it was, I probly should've put more thought into this. ._.

Heh it can't be all three models. Is it the T1115, the T1116 or the T1120?

According to the research I did, 512MB is the max supported RAM for all 3 models. It should take PC100 or PC133 RAM. If any of the sticks you are trying to add are larger than 256MB however, it will not be recognized. If the other stick is 512MB and is PC100 or PC133, then remove your older stick of 256MB first, then put in the 512.

It's a T1120, also it turns out that the stick was faulty, I used a different one and I now have 320 MB of RAM! http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif
