Making GIFs

this may sound dumb but how do you make GIF's? i seen people here do it...

MSPaint
IrfanView
Virtual Dub
Gif Movie Gear

They all work together to create the best possible gif.

I use Game Maker and GIF Animator (to finish them, Game Maker doesn't allow for looping.)
