Item: What do you do to turn a Branch of Paku Paku into Stri

I searched the site and tryed to find out how but i couldnt find anything. I apoligize if there was a guide saying how to. I remember on ver2 you had to stand under the waterfall in r2 and a chao would get on the stick. Do you have to do this in a certain quest or just any time? just equip the branch go to your mag menu and a use option will appear
