This is one of several new spacesuit prototypes under consideration for adoption by Nasa. Dava Newman (a professor of Aeronautics at MIT, and the suit's designer) claims the skin-tight suit makes space travel easier and safer than the bulky suits currently used, and proposed for adoption by allowing the astronaut to be more mobile, lighter, and conscious of the suit's boundries.

It's about damned time NASA started getting around to replacing stuff like that. They've only recently started updating on-board computers and the like. Until recently, they were still running on stuff that can be out-computed by a fscking Game Boy.

Seriously though, I must say that this is a step in the right direction for NASA. On the downside, I hear those things are really tough to put on, and they also have difficulty maintaining pressure. Perhaps we'll colonize the moon by the time our great grandchildren are around our age.
