View Full Version : Do you listen to music while playing PSO?

Hmm, maybe this isn't so offtopic.

Anyway, after about 500 hours of listening to PSO's somewhat repetitive (but moody!) tunes, I started muting the volume and listening to my own music, or the radio, usually Art Bell. It actually made for a much more enjoyable experience, especially when me and two other friends were all listening and commenting on Art Bell's radio show at the same time, while playing.

For a while I was keeping the PSO music on in the GCN version (much better sound over the DC version!), but now I'm beginning to pump music from my PC while playing PSO, once again listening to my own music.

So, do you turn off the PSO music, opting for your own choice of beats/grooves/phatness/schlock, or suffer through another 400 hours stick with the original score?
And if you go with your own music, what do you usually listen to? Just your normal ol' favorite music, or something that fits the mood of PSO?
Happy hardcore has been serving me well lately, personally. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_nerd.gif

I usually turn off the music in PSO via the options menu and turn on some j-pop, j-rock, anime music or my radio shows (http://www.ruptbot.com/cornpisser).

Yeah, the PSO music can be tolerable..but sometimes you just don't want to hear that one track X_X

I've heard worse though =x

Well, it's Sonic Team, the music can't be THAT bad, afterall. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif (Now, let's just forget about Big the Cat's theme song, shall we?) It's just that... after a few hundred hours of the same song, you start getting a wee bit tired of it. o_O

I almost always listen to other music while I play. I think it helps me stay awake and not get bored as fast. Just whatever I happen to be listening to at the time. Lately Radiohead over and over and over and over. Right now I have the bends and a live show from 06-23-01 in the player I think.

Of course, I can't stand that damn PSO music >_<

I just turn the volume on my tv down, and put some Rap/Hip hop on my radio, and I am all set to kill some rappys. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

i always mute pso since a year or so -
got my cd-player busy most of the time:
mostly actual random j-rock (judy & mary, l'arc en ciel, x-japan, glay, kana,...), j-pop (pizzicato 5, towa tei,...), anime-soundtracks (berserk,...) or some 'classics' like... um... system of a down, radiohead, r.e.m, ...
yesterday i had my old cds from herbert groenemeyer in (german singer who actually sings german ^_^; that got pretty rare lately), for a change...
but then also, sometimes i listen to tv or a video (mixed signals from dc and vcr via some little multi-scart-signal-merge...thingy) while playing...

Its not just listening to the same music over and over again its that theres no words. I like to hear people singing. So whenever I play I turn on my own music.

If I forget to turn on KaZaA, then I use the PSO music. But normally I use my music. Die Aezte(damn, no umlauted letters), Linkin Park, System of a Down, Alkaline Trio, and Weezer. Ah, how my music differs blends. heh

Yeah, Alkaline Trio, Rammstein, aye..so many good songs to listen to. X_X

Some of the songs just make it easier to play sometimes. It doesn't feel so repetive when a song has you spazzing out in your seat =X

Speaking of A3 and songs spazzing you in your seat, I love to listen to their cover of Berlin's "Metro". I just really like the gitterness (guitar work) and vocals, being a vocalist myself. (Yeah, laugh it up. Say there's no real work there. It's hard to maintain pitch and tempo while battling hormones and puberty, along with a struggling budget ad a lack of a bassist and drummer...)

I remember I'd always listen to Linkin Park Music for different areas of the game, for instance, I'd listen to Mr. Han when I was in the lobby. Or when I was in a boss battle I'd listen to Papercut. But the ending sequence, I'd listen to In the end...cuz it didn't matter if I beat it cuz I didn't get jack shit from falz

If KaZaA 2.0 weren't such a stiffy for playlists then I would have all kinds of different playlists. I liked the secon to last version of KaZaA 1.0 . It got the job done and never ticked me off, cept for m lagging 56k modem that always acts ike its a 36.6.

Oh well, that's a vent and still slighty on-topic in our off-topic world. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

I never liked Kazaa as an MP3 player... That what Winamp is for. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif
Pretty cool playlist from what I can see, Pixel. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif Massive Attack and Roni Size are always good.
And you can find my current playlist here (http://www.cox-internet.com/ghiltz/playlist.txt). Usually on random, but lately I've been playing various happy hardcore mixes, mostly Sy & Demo.

During the day I usually leave the music on, but when NIGHTIME rolls around...

-If I know I'm in for an all nighter, I listen to my Radiohead Greatest Hits CD on repeat.

-Battle mode I crank the old System of a Down CD, it honestly improves my performance.

Or I listen to some burned CD's with...

-Thursday
-Weezer
-Tool
-Incubus
-Queens of the Stone Age
-Rage Against the Machine
-Nirvana
-Tenacious D
-The Roots
-Good Charlette
-Jimmi Hendrix
-Eric Clapton
-The Smashing Pumpkins
-Mudvayne
-Sublime
Much Much More...

With me, I usually listen to the game music, but after a while I switch to something else unless the game music totally blows me away *coughMETROID*. For example, I personally don't like the music for the James Bond games I play a lot (Nightfire, Agent under Fire), so I will often play my music instead. Much more fun blasting people to my rock instead of the "sneaky sexy" Bond music.

I like two basic types of music:
(Hard) Rock (Incubus, Linkin Park, 3 Doors Down, whatever's on my favorite radio station as long as it isn't too demonic)
Humor/Parody (Weird Al, The Aquabats)
