Is it just me or did sonic team do something right for a change by making the rare items box red? First off, its a LOT easier because if you find one in a box in the other versions it wouldnt be a different color, then you would have to go find switches for that area which bugs the hell out of me. Second of all, it is by far one of the coolest and most amazing htings ever, i don't know why, but it just gets your spirit up when you se it, no matter what it is you want... Now only if it had gold trimming instead of that gray... wow What do you think on this matter?

I agree. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif It can save us a LOT of trouble, and the feeling of seeing a red box appear from a rare monster is one of the reasons I play PSO.
However, in an online game with a buncha strangers, it can be a double edged sword... That red box is now el matador, and within seconds come the bulls. YOINK! It's an item whore's dream come true, and sometimes it sure does feel like "bull".
But I usually play with friends anyway, and we all share stuff so it's really no problem.

And Sonic Team gets a whole lot right, that should be known by now. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif (Now, Sonic Team, let us do the basic things that Japanese players can do such as uploading snapshots, and you'll be doing a lot MORE right. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_nerd.gif)

Yeah, it's great, one of the best additions...

Sometimes I think about going back and playing a bit of DC PSO just maybe gain a couple levels or something, but then I remember there are no red boxes so I don't.

I think Sonic Team hates America for some reason. Hmm...could it be the rampant n00bism showed by (most, not all)Americans every time they went on v1 and v2(and to some extent...v3)? OF COURSE.

We deserve it...America is probably the worst country when it comes to respect for one another.

America is probably the worst country when it comes to respect for one another.Unfortunately, I think that's pretty damn true. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif Whether or not that has anything to do with Sonic Team is another topic altogether, but I try avoiding crowded lobbies whenEVER possible to avoid the legions of racist bastards, pubescents hitting on my female characters and general LAMERISM...
But that's a whole other topic. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Yes, I'm sure you could easily make a 10 thousand word post about the "America effect", which is basically what makes nearly all American gamers(and Americans in general) act like dumbasses.

But that's for another topic, like you said.

mNot trying to be off topic but i agree with just about everytrhing you said, I mean me and my friends usually don't go online and it works out fine... I got the feeling you have about those asses on the game as well, a whhile back i was playing and I nearly got a v2 rare when people ralrey had them, but before it happened I died and this force took it, then wouldn't cast reverser on me and left... nice guy huh?

Hence the reason I play offline from time to time. Everything I find is mine and I don't feel bad, or am made to feel bad, when I get something cool.

Nice to play online with friends and share what's found.

I have one major problem with the box. It sticks out like a sore thumb! That's good offline, but online its always a mad dash for the stupid thing everytime one drops. I sorta don't like being able to tell when other people find rares. Why? Usually, for every 15 rares I see drop, I get 1 (or none) of them. I'd rather not know that others are finding so many more rares. Ignorance is bliss, you know?

And please, nobody flame me for not finding very many rares. You must remember that I'm a ranger (most of the time) so I'm almost always far away from the enemies.

There's something strangely gratifying about seeing a shiny red box just perpetually revolving on the ground. It's also a huge practical help for those of us who do go offline every once in awhile and don't feel like trudging through myriad priest/minds until we find the rare armor or slot unit we're looking for.

In public games, the race for the red box can get a little distracting and even damaging towards teammates in a tight situation. But as long as everyone is working together and no one is being selfish, then I see no wrong in wanting to be the first one to pick up that special weapon. Perhaps there should be some posted rules of engagement. This is how I usually handle the situation:

1. It's okay to go after a red box in the middle of a battle so long as everyone is in good status and not in danger of being killed.

2. If someone asks you what the item is, answer their query. Even for someone with no keyboard I'm still pretty chatty in games and am always dying to know what my teammate got, regardless of whether or not I actually want or even need the item in question.

3. If someone beats you to it, do not complain with gripes like, "I killed the creature in the first place," or "you're hoarding all the wealth." Though these things may be true, it in no way promotes good teamwork and instead enforces an "every woman for herself" type of attitude. Additionally, I wouldn't want every red box that I casually pick up to come under such scrutiny.

4. Conversely, do not gloat over what you find. Too many times in open games I see lvl 48 HUmars spout things like "OMG COOL FINAL IMPACT!!!!!!!111" time after time, and it spurns resentment within the more unfortunate rangers who don't have a chance to get into the red box action. Make your celebrations short, and move on with the rest of your team.

5. If what you find in no practical way benefits you, look out for those in your team who might want it. One time I was in a game where a lvl 120 HUnewearl said something along the lines of "that's my fourth Yamato today," never thinking to offer it to a significantly lower level HUcaseal. Always remember the old adage: one person's trash is another's treasure. What may just be another common find for you could, through the nuances of section IDs, be a very rare item for somebody else.

6. Lastly, do NOT run ahead of your team to find rares. This has been a major annoyance of mine since the v1 days. It's not only applicable in terms of red boxes, but in practices of common decency as well. PSO is a game designed for up to four players and I always treat it as such. Even if I see three Mil Lillies waiting in the next room, I will hold up for my teammates to get in on the action. I like to know if that I had a sudden emergency or phone call, my buddies would stick around for the thirty seconds when I am unable to attend. The grand concept of the "do unto others" motif is still alive and well, even in the video game world.

Because my primary character is a Ranger, I share your pain.

However, your sig is inflicting pain upon me personally. I think you should use different colors... http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

My Humar once suffered massive neck injuries when a Fomarl trampled him after seeing a red box from across the room... if only there was a trip action button in the game..

Yeah. I love how it's just a bright red. Like said above, my heart skips a beat every time I see one. Although, a warning to large HUcasts: DON'T use the red costume on the first list. It will cause you and others much pain. Being the walking skyscrapers that HUcasts are, I was CONSTANTLY mistaking my box-sized foot for a rare. The first red coloration is, you guessed it, red white and black. Like a rare item box. It continually confused me, and I lost a foot to a Lavis-seeking HUmar once...

i dont know, there was something cool about having one generic box. like you grab it, thinking its a piece of crap, but you equip it and its something rare. it just makes it all worthwhile to me

I agree about the bright red characters! Probably hundreds of times, I have run for a rare that wasn't actually a rare. Things only got worse when my HUcaseal had that red scorpion mag. Thanks for mentioning the red character "problem"; I thought I was just weird and the only one who noticed it.

Oh, and about the sig, I toned down the colours. Sorry!
