confusing monsters

If you confuse a monster and it ends up killing another one, does that cause no item to drop?

I ended up confusing a bunch of tallow and letted them rip each other up, and nothing ended up dropping ( there were 6 ).
Is it just tough luck?

tallow drop rate are very low since they sometimes dont drop anything even when I use to do the rappy holiday mission. so it just tough luck.

okay, what about death attacks? I have a Hell's Rifle and I use it alot, usually when I kill something with that 1 hit kill special attack thing, the monster usually ( or most of the time ) never drops anything

Any monster can drop an item under any circumstances of death. Of course, this does not apply to Dark Falz and Olga Flow.

Yeah, but I never did like npc's stealing my kills in quests >.>. But then I got a red saber from a torr an npc finished off so i was like meh afterwards ^_^.
