So I got my new hard drive and stuff installed, yada yada.

That's not the problem (this isn't a rant, btw)

Every three minutes this DAMN POP UP comes up telling me I NEED to download some shitty registry program that makes me pay 50 BUCKS to get rid of these pop ups.

http://www.registrycleanerxp.com/

That's the site, and I think it's a load of BS.

Any idea on getting the things to stop?

Also, I can't seem to install a sound driver on the computer.

When I go to the Add Hardware Wizard it finds the hardware I need but can't find a driver.

I really need sound so any and all help is appreciated.

I have the driver installation CD but it can't find it on the CD.

EDIT: Oh, when I go to volume control it tells me:

There are no active mixer devices available. To install mixer devices, go to Control Panel, click Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Add Hardware.

I'm really pissed off, so I guess this is a rant now, because that DAMN ad comes up for NO reason.

I'm seriously thinking of just reformatting my computer to get rid of it.

that is malware...you buy and install...takes care of problem, but does something ten times worse to your PC...

any ad thsat tells you you have a problem and takes you to a site clean it...the site is always the cause of the problem

Is the pop-up coming up like a web pop-up, or one of those messenger service pop-ups where its a windows dialog box and you have to click "ok." If so, disable the messanger service in your control panel>admin tools>services. Otherwise, run some scans and get rid of that stuff. Update to all the latest service packs and things as well.

Good luck!

Malware is gone http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Windows updates did something for once, but can anyone help me with the sound drivers?

EDIT: Found a working one... FINALLY

All is good for right now.

Use that to make sure the malware or any bad programs are gone.

1.Download the program, do a system scan with log save.
2. Do not close the program. Go back to the website, upload your log that you've just saved.
3. Look through the website for any "X." Record or memorize those "X" and go back to the
program and click "FIX it."

Sound Drivers you can get directly from your motherboard's CD.

Sorry that this is late.

Actually I couldn't get the driver from the CD, it said it wasn't on it, so I had to search.

All is good now, none of that crap, except I can't log into AIM, which I will get working sooner or later.

You can easily get malware/adware/spyware if you're running Windows XP SP1. Get SP2 or Vista.

If a program you use can't delete a file, you can always run it in safe mode, which usually works.
