I have an intense longing to try this.

Basically this sleeping schedule has you take 6 30 minute naps, four hours apart each day. It forces you directly into the stage of sleeping known as REM which is both the period of sleep in which your body is refreshed and in which you dream. This schedule gives you about 6 more hours in each day to do stuff and also makes you feel continually energetic all day. You get about 2-4 hours of sleep every day.

Wasn't there a Seinfield episode where Kramer tried this, and ended up burning down his apartment? Though I believe his theory was based off 15 minutes every 3 hours.

This is probably something extremely useful to people who work those long hours, I know I've ended up practicing this a few times on the job...

It does truthfully take your body time to coup with this new schedule if you just start doing it out of the blue, there will be points where you just fall flat on your face with no energy, even though you just woke up.

To bad most work places won't agree to this

I've actually tried this before! But I did it because I can run on about 30minutes of sleep, and trying to get through the night without waking up and laying there for 2 hours is hard for me! My mind NEVER shuts up!!!!

And when I tried this, at first I felt groggy, because sometimes I'd sleep a little over the 30minutes..But overall I felt good http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif If you sleep over the 30minutes, you leave the REM stage of sleep and go into the deeper sleep, and when you wake up from that, it's why you feel groggy and really tired. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif

But that was before I had a job...And I don't have a 30minute break to sleep! Thanks to them I'm hooked on caffeinated drinks again! ._.

its strange always talked about doing this in the summer, no school and what not, and he says that he couldn't go through with it because he (like in the article) felt pretty much like a zombie and was worried it may be too much of a risk for him.

i would love it if someone did this and then kept like a blog or something for a a for months or so to see if there were any long term problems.

Someone has done exactly what you say, in fact (http://www.stevepavlina.com/blog/2005/10/polyphasic-sleep/).

The biggest problem with the schedule is that when your nap time comes, while you might be able to fend it off for a while, you'll soon hit a wall, and you'll have to sleep, whether you want to or not. Another practical difficulty Steve Pavlina talks about, is that living your day 3 hours at a time doesn't actually leave you with a good amount of time to get anything done. Also, while it may seem appealing to have those hours in the middle of the night to yourself, he found that it gets rather lonely, and he was starting to miss sleeping with his wife at night.

Still, I suppose that if you're single and generally don't have any reason to go out in public for several hours at a time, then it may work rather well for you.

thanks, i found that very interesting. Similar to what you said taking naps isn't very practical for projects and such because it interupted his train of thought taking naps inbetween his usual work schedule.

I would totally be up for something like that. My employer, however, may take issue with my sleeping habits.

Man I wish I read about this 2 months ago to try it out over the summer instead of just now right before school starts >_<
