ok so i have bought 1 gb of memory for my computer, a fancy new graphics card, only to find out it won't run on my computer because i don't have enough watts. i asked the computer maker if there was anything i could do to get it to work without having to buy anything new. but of course i have to buy something new with them. so i was wondering if anyone here could give me some pointers perhaps. i have spare computer parts but no higher wattage http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif someone help me

How many watts does your current PWS have?

4 years ago you needed at lead 350w, with more powerful PCIE cards you need over 465w

This topic should be in tech support, but let me try to help.

The first thing we need to know is the specs of your system. Everything from your CPU to how many hard drives and disc drives you have. This will let us know how much power your system will require. Next we will need to know the wattage of your power supply. If you open up your tower, its the metal box usually located in the upper left hand corner of the case. Most power supplies will list their wattage and other technical specs on one of the sides of the unit [usually on a sticker or something]. The reason I want to know this is just to make sure the "computer guy" isn't just pulling your leg for business. Now, if you can't find the wattage on it, we will just take the guys word and help find you a good deal on a power supply. I will try to be on for a little bit, so when you reply hopefully me or someone else will be here to help you.

I would consider buying a 400+ w PSU because in the end, you will have to upgrade a 350 later down the road, plus there wont be a large price difference between the two.

I would suggest picking up this power supply. Its not very expensive, merely $39.99 [$24.99 after rebate] and the greatest plus is that its 430 watts. Thermaltake is a reputable brand and if you can't take my word, just go off of the 1300 some reviews it got http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif. I hope this helps!

350w are cheap, I highly suggest going with Enermax or ANTEC brand

What is your system Specs? CPU/Speed and Memory? , Also what kind of Video Card are you running?

350w is really like bare minimum, unless your running a Celeron with Onboard Sound..etc

You really should be leaning more towards 465w if you ever plan on upgrading more in the future.

ENERMAX EG365P-FMA 350w - $45.00

ENERMAX EG465P-FMA 460w- $66.00

ANTEC EA380 380w - $40.25

Yea, with your system, 350w would be more than enough. I would suggest a cheaper PSU but, please remember a cheap PSU (power supply) can potentially screw up your other hardware of it goes bad on you. If anything try not to skimp on this if you can afford to. This is what I tell all of my clients http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

I assumed so much when you told us that your current PSU was only 250w. I'm afraid to say however, there probably wont be any free way to get a PSU before Thursday and being a computer person, I wouldn't suggest taking a free PSU off someone unless u knew it was working properly. You may have to bite the bullet until you can fork up the munny >....<
