My first thought: These people have way too much time on their hands.
SAYS THE GUY POSTING ON AN INTERNETS FORUM.

After watching the video: Too much shaky cam akshun, and the video was just some d00ds shooting at other d00ds and one of the comments were 'this is why a halo movie would work'. I really don't see how.

I just can't help but voice my thoughts. The video was great. It may not have been perfect by any means, but it was great. As for not having a steady cam, it reminds me of what a field photographer would shoot.

As for the cost... the video could have been done fairly cheap. In the grand scheme of things, it probably wasn't more than twenty thousand US dollars. Probably less. If you have free time and/or cash, try filming a two minute segment and editing it in adobe. Its all a matter of skill, for the skilled can do it cheaper. That doesn't diminsh the value of getting to see a pelican drop a warthog and two soldiers driving it. The only problem is that Hollywood doesn't make too many feature length films with the feel that this clip had. I would much rather see it done as an independent film.

BTW: That armor is great. Fairly close to whats in R&D right now. Expect to see stuff like it in five years.

The Halo movie was going to cost a shitload of money, so whoever is producing it (I forget, since it's changed a few times) wants to make sure that the investment is worth it. They're waiting to see the sales numbers for Halo3 as far as I know.

High-def version.

I believe these are made by the director of the Halo movie. (notice the camera crews in the second photo). They're probably experimenting before starting on the real thing.

I was actually wondering what the point of Weta building that real-life working Warthog was awhile ago, and now we know.

These short films are indeed being directed by Neill Blomkamp, in a collaboration between Weta Digital and Bungie Studios. Short films and commercials are actually where Blomkamp made his name known; it's been speculated that part of the reason the studios pulled out on the Halo project, though, was due to his total inexperience with something of feature-length. I think these are essentially more "proof of concepts" for the studios to try and get them on board with it again.

Alive in Joburg (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iNReejO7Zu8) is the man's best known short.
